Fuji D6 Pro

Walked into Performance Bike this evening to pick up a cheap stem, double points weekend. I headed to the back of the store so my son could check out the kids bikes and lo-and-behold in the service area on one of the workstands was a freshly assembled Fuji D6 Pro. Everyone who headed back there contributed some amount of drool over it. Whoever bought it, lucky bastard. Not only are they riding a sweet bike out of the store, they’re getting over $800 back in double Team Performance Points!!!

Granted I work at a performance bike, but that D-6 is a total dream machine.

How would you compare the D6 to the Cervelo P2 or Felt B14? All in roughly the same price range.

The Felt and Fuju look pretty sick!

In all honesty I have not ridden the p2 or B14 so any response would not be as much evidence based as much it would be an assumption. I wish I could give you a better answer than " I dont know" but to be fair i really dont. With that said, I’m pretty sure you couldn’t go wrong with any of the three. If you are shopping them out being able to ride them all would be a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon, no doubt about that.

Just out of curiosity, how did the rear brake look? I have a friend who rides a D6 and the rear brake appears a little contrived. I assume that it may be the type of brake used, but the cable pulls at a ninety-degree angle to the attachment point on the brake arm. Not a real smooth mechanism in my opinion.

I ride a D6 – the COMP model – absolutely fantastic ride – had my first under 5hr IM ride on it. I

Make sure you get the right sized and fitted bike.

On the COMP model, my only complaint is that the cranks, bb, and handle bars should be upgraded –

The RIVAL components and brakes are just fine.

i was really interested in the double points at Peformance that would’ve come along with the cross, @ $800 for a Fuji cross comp I’d get $130 worth of in store credit but I just got off the phone with a guy who has an '03 C-Dale Ironman (dura ace, spinergy something or another) and he has been holding on to it for two weeks for me and I haven’t even called him until this morning and he still has it. No more cross bike right away. yes. hello Ironman.

Just got a Performance Bike catalog in the mail today, the d6 is on sale for half price.

There is a big difference between “on sale for half price at Performance” and “what the bike should cost.”

Most stuff is about 10-15% about the Going Rate. Take off the 10% on Tuesdays from 12-2, you get close to the going rate. If it’s already on sale, you might get it below the Going Rate.

That bike is getting great reviews too, I just read this one 2 days ago http://www.advancedsports.com/Fuji_D6_Bike_Review.pdf

If only I could convince the wife to let me have one.

I ordered the Fuji Pro cross today, not the Comp which was 105 and tegra and entry level wheels. The Fuji Cross Pro is all ultegra along with some kind of high end cross wheels something or another which next week I’ll be buying.

the cross bike will be used as training for 112 miles.

Yeah two went on ebay for about $2000 and two more went for $2300-$2400.

I’ve had mine for a while - and yes, everyone - including myself drools at the sight of it!

Pro’s: Solid frame with minute to non-existant flex in the rear end, the forks on this bike are good and it’s definately comfortable on IM distances (though I’d change the seat at first opportunity). It’s fast, easy to find a good fit on and is definately one of the better made, affordable full-carbon TT/Tri frames around. As a value-for-money bike, the D-6 Pro is great bang for the buck, the standard Fuji badged aero wheels that come with the bike are great for training, I’ve accidentally smashed them over some rough bumps, stuff that’d taco most alloy rims - and the Fuji’s held up fine. The routes I train on aren’t the smoothest of surfaces but the D-6’s ride feels supple enough to make things comfy when in the aero position…

Con’s: The cr*p brakes… Front AND Rear. I’ve switched to wet weather racing pads and they still hate me. I’m in struggle-town trying to find something to replace them but haven’t had any luck yet.

Above all, it’s a great bike, definately fast, good looking, affordable and well made - for it’s price point it’s well rounded with the componentry it’s specced with, easy to get fitted to but if I could change just one thing - it’d be the brakes…

Got only a little look at the brake. From what I remember, It’s not your standard brake. It somehow fits into a pocket at the seatstays.

I wouldn’t worry about the brakes. In a TT, you won’t need them!

I just got the Matt Reed edition and i will tell you the brake are a mechanics nightmare. However it is a beatuiful bike. I think i will like it.

the MR edition is the best looking TT bike i have ever seen…i want that sooooo bad.

My freind has the Matty Ried Fuji and I must say, the bike is bad ass. It just looks cool, really sweet lines, good feel. And you know how it goes, if it looks fast, you will ride it fast.

The brakes are a mess to put together, but they do get neatly tucked away, and you shouldn’t use your brakes anyways!

Coolest thing, we did the Gateway to the Bay race this weekend, and Ried was there, and he thought is was cool that she was riding his bike, and signed it!

OMG how much weight does that add to the frame, so not aero anymore…

Having Reed’s signature on your D-6 should save you at least 10 minutes per 40k. So jealous.
