I am a Navy pilot and amateur artist/furniture refinisher (and triathlete). I picked up a Martin-Baker ejection seat a few weeks ago with the intent to make it a functional chair. The cushions are made from marine grade vinyl and are water resistant. The base (part that the seat sits on) is off a 70’s Steelcase chair. I am not entirely sure what the seat is out of. I made no attempt to refinish the metal or remove any of the original hardware from the actual bucket so as it keep it original. It has some scuffs and blems from being sat on day-in and day-out during the war, but IMO this adds to the coolness of the chair. As you can imagine, it not as comfortable as a high end Herman Miller office chair with 5 different adjustments. I’d say this would be best used as a desk chair and not a lounge sort of chair. The bottom cushion is plush enough that you legs will make contact with the metal portion but this is not bothersome (IMO). My wife and friends who have sat in it feel the same. It reclines to a point and the tension in the reclining is adjustable with a knob under the chair. The base I made such that you could unbolt the current set-up and bolt on another office chair base or non-swivel base as you desired. This may require drilling new holes, but it would be a simple evolution to knock out. I live in VA Beach and would be willing to deliver to up to a 150-200 mile radius for a fee or ship it UPS Freight. There is a company called “MotoArt” that makes a similar chair that goes for 6500$-8500$ undelivered. If you were to purchase an ejection seat by itself you are looking at at least 1500-3500$. If you are interested, please contact me with an offer. Or, if you are interested in a trade, I am looking for a higher end carbon road or TT/Tri bike in a 52-54. Just and FYI, I have ordered a set of more industrial red castor wheels that I am planning on using in lieu of the ones pictured. Thanks.
