the fsa slk crankset that came on my carbon soloist is creaking and clacking. i’ve had it for only 5 months. had the lbs mechanic adjust it twice already and it’s starting to creak again. apparently others have had more serious problems. see the reviews here:
how can such a “high-end” component and company produce such a crappy product and not back it up? please give me your recommendations for a replacement crankset since i know nothing about bikes and components.

Never had a single problem with any of these cranks and have been very very happy with all of them. I guess some are more lucky than others.
For best shifting performance I always stick with a full Shimano or Campy drivetrain.
IMHO Cranksets such as Bontrager,FSA, etc. simply don’t perform as well.
I have the FSA Carbon Pro w/ a Rotor Ring on my TT bike and have had no trouble at all. I was surprised to hear such bad experiences with them. They seemed like a solid company to me

I had an early left crank arm loosening issue on my new Soloist Carbon. Fixed per FSA. Using the FSA SLK with Q-rings now for a little over 5,000 miles with no problems. But, I have heard of lots of issues as well - and since std Shimano or Campy cranks you really never hear of any issues, I’d stick with them (if “buying” a crank that is). Otherwise, I like FSA’s other parts (especially their aluminum stems and bars - no carbon there for me, thanks).
I have two of them. One on my tri bike and one on my road bike. I was going to suggest them. I’ve great luck with both. The Rouleur on my tri bike is approaching 7,000 miles and I’ve never touched the cranks.
Two things I note about the chainrings compared to FSA (which my wife has on both bikes and the Platinum ISIS BB lasted less than a year).
The ramps seem better on the Truvativ
The chainrings are really, really shiny when new. They look great, but I ride my bike on the trainer some and I sweat a lot. After 1.5 years the chainrings show a few signs of pitting. Good, but no longer perfect.
I haven’t actually located a good source for Truvativ cranks sold separately. Both mine came with the bike.
One more thing. From the picture you posted the chainrings are not “chromed” like mine. Probably not as shiny as mine (which may or may not be a good thing), but probably more durable and sweat resistant.

Anything by campy, BB and crankset. I don’t know about the new system they have introduced, but the square taper BB’s and cranks are as close to perfect as you can get. You never, ever, see complaints about Campy BB’s.

… yes - my nearest supplier:) - i believe they ship wherever - if you havent got any shops closer who carry the goods!
so you got your fsa crank warranteed? do i have to ship it back? according to the road reviews, most of those complaining about fsa said their customer service sucks and that they didn’t get any resolution to the problems.
No, sorry. Just re-read the post and it did sound like that. I did contact FSA and they mentioned a few fixes and were reasonably helpful if I remember correctly, but I did not send it back. I basically did some research online (and with the help of another STer engineer with a similar problem as well) and did it myself. Entailed a different torque spec and some blue loctite and what was it.
