FS: Zipp 404 rear wheel, Powertap SL, Wheelcover (new asking price)

I’ve upgraded my bike with a Quarq powermeter.

Because of that, I am looking to sell my previous race wheel setup to a good home.

It is a 2006 Zipp 404 dimpled rim (tubular, 700c) mounted to a Powertap SL(wired) powermeter. Shimano/SRAM. The batteries in the Powertap were just replaced ~1 month ago.

This also includes a wheelcover from Wheelbuilder.com.

The wheel has only been used in races (triathlons and a few Time Trials), so it’s in solid condition, with only ~1000 miles on it. This wheel was used at the 2006 Ironman Kona, 2007 Grand Columbian Iron distance, and 2008 Ironman Coeur d’Alene.

I’m looking for $700 for it (or make me an offer), plus shipping.

I have a cardboard bike wheel-specific box that it will ship in, with plastic caps for the axle to protect it in shipping.

It does not include: Powertap CPU ( as I’m keeping my training wheel to use on my road bike ), wiring harness, tire, skewer, or cassette.

Paypal preferred. Send PM or post here if you want pictures or more details.

Edited to add:

For those not interested in this due it being wired, the SL hub is upgradeable through Saris to the new ANT+ wireless systems.
The upgrade completely replaces the internals of the hub (w/ the new 15mm axle), and would include a NEW (from saris) 2.4+ wireless CPU, CPU mount, Heart Rate strap, and a 1 year warranty.
This upgrade can be done without removing the hub from the wheel.
The cost Saris quoted on the phone for the upgrade is $1010 for an SL+ system, or $1310 for SLC+ system.
A new SL+ hub is $1600, and a new SLC+ hub is $2100. With this deal you would get a Zipp 404 rim and wheelcover as well!

Thanks!

FWIW: I asked Saris on the phone if I could upgrade a wired SL to ANT+, and they said it’s not possible through the same path as the wireless PTaps. They may be able to do a custom service on it, but it would probably be $300.

I just spoke with them as well. It depends on the type of hub body what upgrades are possible.

The hub body in the 2006 PT SL (which is what I’m selling) has the “carbon windows”, so it’s the same hub body as used in the SL+ and SLC+. It can be upgraded without delacing it from the wheel.

The PRO+ and ELITE+ use a different hub body (all alloy, no carbon windows ).

They re-use the SL hub body, but it’s a complete replacement of the guts (strain gauges, new 15mm axle, etc.). It also includes a new CPU, mount, and HRM strap. If you didn’t need the new CPU, mount, and HRM strap it may be an even cheaper upgrade path.

I called their customer service line: 1-800-783-7257

Thanks. Interesting that they didn’t offer the full guts replacement option. I figured they could do it. Did they quote a fee for that? At any rate, my point was that it’s not the same as the $100 firmware upgrade on the wireless hubs. Thanks for the info though.

They did offer the full guts replacement (at least to me). That’s the quoted $1010 (for SL+ guts) or $1310 (for SLC+ guts). That also includes the $300 MSRP Cervo CPU and HRM strap as well, so if you don’t need that, it might be a bit cheaper. Would need to call them to confirm that.

Bump, new asking price $700. ( Or make an offer )

With the SL+ rebuild from Saris, you can get an SL+ with a zipp 404 plus wheelbuilder.com cover, for the MSRP of the SL+!

PM sent.

Still available? If you are in the Chicago area, would a pick-up/ cash deal be possible?

Still available. I am in the Chicago area (NW suburbs). I work in Schaumburg, so a pickup/meet and cash exchange is definitely possible.

Bump to add picture to the listing.

Any questions or specific picture requests ( close up of hub body or cassette body ) just let me know.
