FS: American Classic CR-420 Wheels

I have a limited quantity of these sweet wheels coming in. All with black rims. I prefer to sell them to Slowtwitchers directly as eBay fees cut my margin down even further, but I will offer on eBay if I don’t sell them out here. I have a spotless eBay user rating in case you want to review my previous auctions (username “taitri”).

For a full description, the previous listing can still be viewed HERE, although since my cost went up I’m offering them for US$475 including worldwide express shipping, insured, and I will be revising the wording of the new listing.

This is a great deal for some great wheels. On eBay the Buy It Now price will also be US$475. I sold out four sets within 24 hours a couple weeks ago, so demand is clearly high.

Notably, these come with hubs that do not need replacement of a cam plate. There has been a recall on the hubs that come with these wheels, but these are freshly minted and shipped after the problem was discovered and remedied. Although a minor part, the cam plate issue can cause major headaches.

PM with email to set up a deal.

The price is going up in the future, so I just enlarged my order. Six of these fine wheelsets available.

Still have a few of these sets left. Shipment comes in to me this week. Several are spoken for already.

Nice Wheels. Sorry a few questions for you.

  1. Are these wheels brand new?

  2. Do they come with a warranty?

  3. Performance and weight-wise how do they compare to Zipp 303s?

Regards

Hi Shane,

First, I just put a new batch of these up on eBay, but would prefer to sell directly to Slowtwitchers.

Interesting choice of comparisons. I feel the American Classics compare well with the much more costly Zipp 303s: With comparable wheel depth (34 for ACs, 40mm for Zipps), the Zipps actually weigh more despite a full carbon rim, at an average of 1627 g., versus 1521g. for the American Classics with bladed spokes (weights according to manufacturers) The American Classics are a fine choice for racing everything from crits to Ironmans, and are still a reliable training wheel. I personally wouldn’t want to train on all-carbon rims. The Zipps require special brake pads. Minor issues, but the Zipps don’t come with skewers, and they should also be kept and transported with a wheel bag, which isn’t included, so that’s more cost

The wheels are new, direct from the factory. I’ll cover any damage sustained during transport, and any American Classic dealer can service them if necessary.

Still for sale? Please check your PM. I am interested in taking a pair.

Thanks, Shane!
