Some of the fruit at the local supermarket comes from Chili. Blueberries, grapes, peaches etc. Should I be concerned with the quality of this fruit? I try to buy only local or US fruit when possible.
Denison’s or Hormel?

I’d be concerned with fruit from Chili if the fruit is brown.
Chris
LMAO. That was a good one.
I would worry more about the carbon impact on the planet from trucking fruit from the other hemisphere…
Ya, the amount of gas caused by Chili is enormous.
OK, enough with the chili jokes!

Oddly, Chilean cherries are almost at the summer prices of the homegrown crop, at least here in GA.
You should not be worried about fruit coming from Latin America, the fruit used for export is of great quality. Just wash is or disinfect it (as you should do with any other local fruit/vegetable)
I could not figure out what this thread was about when I saw the title. I’m disappointed…
I read that one can reduce up to 90% of their pesticide exposure by only eating the following foods organic. There is more research also suggesting that meat and dairy are important to eat organic as well.
Apples Cherries Grapes, imported (Chili) Nectarines Peaches Pears Raspberries Strawberries Bell peppers Celery Potatoes Spinach
It is nothing like American grown produce. Very little of it is subject to inspection. Anything goes there.
That DDT gets all those south American pests. Or was that DEA - ICE - ATF - FBI ?
When I was a grad student in Industrial Hygeine I learned that when DDT was outlawed in the US the manufacturers figured out a way to make it in two seperate batches that were not illegal. All you had to do in the field was mix the two one-to-one and it made perfect DDT. Those chemicals are still manufatured today, almost all of it is being exported to Latin America. Pretty sad.

I believe DDT is used for mosquito control in third world countries as nothing works better , on the risk VS benefit chart it shines . The reduction of malaria deaths proves its usefulness in some countries , song birds be damned
Duh! I mean Chile not Chili.
