Hi all, I recently bought the Quintana Roo PRFour Disc that comes with the Profile Design Wing 10A handlebar with 35A Extensions.
Since I do most of my outdoor riding early in the morning, I need a good strong front light for my rides in the fall and early winter. I own the “Bontrager Ion Pro RT Front Bike Light” which works great on my gravel bike, but neither the clamp mount nor the rubber mount work well with the aero profile of the handle bar on the QR.
Does anybody have recommendations on good front light mounts that are compatible with the dimensions of this handlebar? Happy to buy a different front light–so it doesn’t have to be a solution that works with the Bontrager light.
I’ve been using the Serfas lights on both the tri and road bikes for several years. The attachment bracket of the mount will rotate 90-degrees, so it will mount on conventional road bars or extensions. Clamp has a lot of adjustment, so it’ll mount on almost any normal diameter bar or extension. The lights come in a variety of sizes / intensities but they all fit the same mount. I use them for night rides, but also started using during the day in blinker mode.
The Lezyne macro drive lights (ex. the 1300lm) can be mounted on aero section basebars, or alternately, the mount can be turned 90deg. and used on the extensions (less ideal since the light is hanging upside down, but works fine with my 300lm lezyne).
Turned 90deg.
The part that sits atop the round bar can slide off the strap for mounting on aero section basebars.
You want a light with a go pro style mount… eg all the Lezynes can use this adapter. https://ride.lezyne.com/products/1-led-gpad-v104. I think you may be able to get something similar for the Bontranger light.
Then you get a go-pro mount, which gives you a few different options…
As per Tim above, I’d suggest using one of the Go Pro style mounting systems. Trek sells an Ion/Go Pro style adapter, so you can use the light you have now.
This was an inexpensive solution I did when having trouble mounting my light to the tri bars. I bought a piece of PVC that the mount would work on, cut it to about 1"-1-1/2" long, drilled a hole on each end and ran a zip tie through the holes on either side and mounted perpendicular to the aerobars. Anytime I wanted to remove the light I’d just cut the zipties off.
Thank you all for your suggestions. It seems like the best solution is to get a GoPro mount for the front plate and then the Bontrager adapter for my current light. It seems the most secure and adjustable mount and it’ll allow me to use my existing light (saving maybe $100).
