From Tri bike to Road Bike questions

Going from a full tri bike to a Orbea road bike. A few aero questions i have.

  1. Any one use their X-Lab Wing W/ X-Nut on a road bike? (older style, like shark fin) What about without bottle cages? Use just for c02 and tire?
  2. Using my Zipp 440’s full time?
  3. Aero chain ring on my cranks, to much? Should I go to the standard ring?

Also, correct me if im wrong. Road geometry will use different muscles in my legs than a tri. What should I expect in my runs in a sprint /oly race? Fatigue? Jello legs?

Will send pics of the final build.

Well, here’s my theory on muscle recruitment…It’s mostly about your body position relative to the bottom bracket and where (what angle) you engage the pedals.
The tendency is for a road bike with a slacker STA to recruit more glutes and less quads, most specifically the vastus medialis. To the extent that this happens, you will run better off the bike. (and probably generate more power to the cranks).

1.) Sprint/Oly distance stuff… I’d just put my spare kit in my bottle and run it on one of the cages on the frame. You don’t need THAT much hydration on the bike in short course… and most oly’s have a station on the course.

2.) I wouldn’t use them to train on unless you just want to. I race my 404’s almost always… if it was extremely hilly maybe some lightweight climbing wheels.

3.) I’d just go with the standard. More preference than anything though.

I run off of my road bike just as well as I do off my tri bike.

True. I was not going to use it for hydration, but for more of a Spare tire, co2 and chuck carrier. No cages attached. I’m putting those on the frame itself.

thanks again all for the info.
