Can anyone provide a pseudo-accurate count of how many people started an Ironman ™ race last year?
You’d think with all the fanfare of YOU ARE AN IRONMAN there would be some cohesive lists somewhere. I haven’t found them.
Guesses and ballpark (within a couple thousand) won’t do it - I need it to be pretty close.

Trust me - there are some folks on this forum who know the exact number, how far they decided to travel and even more about them.
Make no mistake, this information exists.
But where? Xtri.com has only the top finishers, and ironman.com has spotty results (with events like New Zealand 2007 missing completely, for example).
Maybe visiting each of the event websites is the only way to go. But in today’s world of computers and people with way too much time on their hands at work, you’ve gotta believe it’s out there somewhere in a concise format.
I’ll even take semi-concise.

Below is a link to an article xtri.com did a while back for the total number of Ironman finishers in 2005, both Ironman branded and Indy races. I did not see the same survey done for 2006. However, they might have done it and I may just not have been able to find it.
