Freewheel to cassette adapter?

So the friction vs. index thread got me thinking…
I have an older Hed disk with a threaded 7speed freewheel. Its not a big deal to set it to friction, but it would be real nice if I could convert it to 9 speed.
Does anyone know if there is any kind of adaptor that would screw on to the freewheel that would then allow me to attach a 9 speed shiano splined cassette? I’m thinking it wouldn’t be too tough to make, but I’ve never seen one.

I don’t think such an adapter exists…but this is certainly not an area of expertise for me in any sense so I look forward to seeing a reply from someone who knows more about this than I do. If anything I think it’d be easier to find used 8 speed freewheels on ebay to pick up another gear.

I remember Sachs making some 8-speed freewheels, but I think that’s your limit for thread-on types.

I don’t think anyone makes such a beast, and I doubt that it can be made, either. The diameter of the threaded portion of a screw on freewheel is (I believe) too large. The parts just physically wouldn’t fit.

I didn’t think of that. Looks like I’m stuck.
Thanks everyone.

Have you contacted Hed to ask if they will change the hub? I just had this done to two old Zipp discs. Not particularly cheap, but a good way to extend the life of old wheels.
