Fractured finger -- swimming?

So I broke my finger. Not snapped in half or anything, but broke the flared portion above my top knuckle. Ow. This was 8 days ago. I’ve got swim class tomorrow morning (didn’t have one last Monday due to Easter). Thankfully, the swelling is way down. Unfortunately, there’s still quite a bit of pain when pressure is applied. Anyone have experience or ideas? Duct tape a small paddle to my hand? Tape fingers together? HTFU?

I had the same thing happen to me a year and a half ago. It was my middle figure, fractured between the top and middle knuckle. I didn’t tape it or anything for swimming. It hurt quite a bit just swimming and obviously don’t use it to touch the wall. But in my case at least, the doctor said it wouldn’t do anymore damage so it was just a question of HTFU for me.

I boke my little finger with a chipped bone Feb 2015 during 1st 25 of warmup after being hit by another swimmer going the other way. was in the middle joint.
I figured it was like getting finger jammed in basketball but it wasn’t. It was Quite painful. I went for followup a wk later after it was looking weird. Sagging in the middle. Turns out I blew out the ligament. Turned into a serious thing where I needed to wear a traction device and then several sessions of therapy to try to get movement back. I taped it for swimming and had a pale sometimes for protection. Lost of flexion is something That’s hard to get back so don’t keep it taped all the time and try to exercise it so the joints and lend on get stiff and then stuck.
Now some 13 months later it still won’t close all they way is kind warped and twisted.

I broke my ring finger at the 2nd knuckle years ago, did the tape thing and it was fine.

You will knock it against the wall, other swimmers and lane marker (the last really hurts) and quickly learn not to. Buddy tape and give it a try.

Well, I didn’t even bother taping and it worked out fine. Although I did crack my other hand against another person, so I had that moment of ‘omg’ thinking what it would have felt like if I’d been on the other side. All’s well that ends well! And no excuses for me to skip swim workouts.

Happened to me in January. Splint and tape the fingers together. Paddles helped w/ not moving the finger and reducing pressure too. I sucked it up and dealt with the pain…until someone knocked my hand and I wanted to cry. So I got out. Happened a few times when it was still super sensitive.
