Here’s what I think when I see someone roll in with Form Goggles 🤣. Whatever floats your boat man, but those things seem like a solution searching for a problem in a pool environment. Maybe in open water it’s a different story. Also, goggles are a consumable to me, so the cost just boggles my mind.
For me, I see a lot of advantages. I don’t have a coach, don’t have time to swim 10,000m+/wk and I swim alone. So the metrics from the Head Coach data helps me with my head position (I was looking way too far down at the pool floor) and breathing. Likewise, as a relatively new swimmer, I was really poor at pacing intervals and the last-lap time helps me in my consistency of pacing.
I simply quit doing flip turns because of the reports of the goggles coming off, as I’m not racing. Even if my TSS is a little slower because I don’t flip turn anymore, I see the overall benefits out weigh the limitations.
I’m looking forward to waters warming up so I can swim with them outside. I don’t know how difficult sighting might be, so that may change my mind on them.
I can definitely see how an experienced, fast swimmer (with a handle of tallswimmer, I’m guessing you’re one of these) would find little to no value in them. Maybe it’s like an experienced runner who has run so much they can easily feel their pace and don’t need to look at a watch. It doesn’t mean a watch that’s displaying a pace isn’t a solution searching for a problem. It’s means some of us (me, for sure) do have problems that need solutions.

I have them & am not a fan for the most part. Flip turns they literally “flip” off the suction to the face even if I have them tight or more loose–I’d have to stop & re-adjust them. Blurry is one word for them. The only time I found it super helpful was open water swimming in a lake or ocean to gather data how far I was swimming. Aside from that–I really felt it was a good idea initially–but now more “gimmicky”…I really like my Magic 5’s though, that was worth the investment & is both a great pool as well as open water goggle.
If you want a goggle that is low cost, will last 5-8 years without any parts breaking or needing replaced…it’s hard to beat Speedo Vanquish 2’s…but I like the Magic’s better from an overall standpoint of visual/comfort. Definitely NOT the Form goggles, to me it felt a waste of money.
I may have to try the magic 5s next. I have a pair swipe arena goggles. Really like them except they did in my eye sockers a bit.

I stopped using these when I could build swim workouts in TrainingPeaks and send them straight to my Garmin watch. I don’t need a major motion picture in my grill at all times.
