The owner of my LBS was telling me a related story a while ago. The night before a big race, one of his customers wanted to get everything set so he gould just jump in the car and drive off in the am before the race. So he hooked up his bike onto the roof rack and got everything else set. Morning of the race, he jumped in his car, opened his garage door and drove out of the garage… CRRRRRAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHHHH!
He hooked up his bike to his roofrack… inside his garage. Doh!
I remember a story where Jimmy Riccatello got DQ’d from a race he was leading for undoing his helmet strap while on the bike. This caused him to miss out on the 1st place prize which was a new car (miata I believe). So pissed (at himself) he forgot the bikes on the car a drove into the garage. All in alla bad day at the office.
I think this should be a reminder to everyone to check your HO policy. I know mine covers up to $5k per bicycle and it is covered anywhere. If I leave my bike sitting on my front lawn and someone steals it, it is covered. If someone steals it in T1 it is covered.
Every policy is different, I used to have my bike underwritten when I had insurance through another carrier. Cost $10 a year.
