Forerunner 305 Problems

Has anyone had any problems with there Garmin 305 Forerunner or with Garmin Training Center on startup. It just will not run and I get an error message. I contacted Customer Service and they wrote me an email back and tried everything they told me to do but did not fix it…Any suggestions?

I seem to recall that problem is normally getting the USB drivers installed
first (if you’re on windows). work that angle first. It’s been a long time
since I had to tangle with that issue.

I would assume you downloaded the new drivers and updates from Garmin? If not, do so. Also what I did is I completely deleted the program from my comp and re-installed it. yes, you will lose all stored infor from the unit, unless you still have it in the history of said unit!

I had this exact same problem. A little monkeying around with the files solved the problem

First of all backup everything. What I did was zip up this folder (the one that holds all the Training Center data

 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Training Center

Then, I went into the backups folder:

 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Training Center\TCAcct\Backups

and copied all the files there, up one level, to here:

 C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Training Center\TCAcct\

That solved it for me.

I strongly suggest you download a free copy of SportTracks and use that as well. That way, if one of your log’s data is lost, you’ll have the other one

I’m assuming your problem is the same as mine. Might not be but if it’s in the data files (and that typically happens at startup) this can fix it. Regardless, don’t neglect to back up everything before doing this.

There is a very easy fix for this… Download SportTracks. It’s free, works great, is more useful than Training Center, and it very easy to back-up your data.

I don’t use training center much (though I do download the data to it). I mainly use the web version, motionbased. training center can “export” your history. You should do that… I’ve done it when moving computers, and wanting to bring along all my old history.

As for your specific problems, try what everyone else said… create a backup of the history (export a tcx file), update the firmware of the unit, the drivers, even the TC software. if that doesn’t work. Uninstall TC and start over.

You could use sportstracks, but that has it’s own issues sometimes.

I had trouble loading the program. I do not know what I did but I got it to work. It gave me the message that I needed to contact Garmin and I played with it some and got it to work. I think something is wrong with the disk

I am a new 305 user. My Garmin info is at home and I am at the office. What is sportstracks? How do I download it?

sportstracks is an alternative program to training center. a superior one… but nonetheless it is installed on a computer. That is why i use motionbased, since it’s online and can be accessed from anywhere. Not as feature rich either, but I’ll take it over a pc installed one.

Interestingly, the other day I did get an error msg at start-up. It was the first time I had opened TC in a couple weeks to upload recent data. I copied the text and sent to Garmin and they replied very quickly:

“The DOC_APPLICATIONDATAVERSION.CPP error indicates an issue with the stored data for the TrainingCenter program. There are two options to correct this issue. The first one is to remove the back up files stored on the computer by TrainingCenter, here are the steps…” (The other option is to completely remove TrainingCenter, then re-install).

Was this the same error as others are having? Coincidence? FWIW, I’m running TC on XP via Parallels on my Mac.
