May be a dumb question, are you able to swim with it or would i kill my Garmin?
I pretty sure that means it could handle rain but would die if submersed. I tested that theory on a cheaper watch as a kid and it was correct.
water resistant is the best you can get, i think its illegal for a manufacture to label anything water proof.
to answer your question, yes its fine.
My 305 died from running in the rain with it. So I would not swim with it.
IPX7 is water resistance at 3 feet for 30 min
.
NO!!! Swimming will kill it. You can immerse it or even submerge it for a little while, but if you swim 2.4 with it, it’s history.

This has been asked many times. Take the 205 or 305 in the water enough times and you WILL kill it. Might be one time. Might be 50 but it will die. Garmin specifically says do not swim with it.
I’ve had a Garmin die just from rain water from running.

It is not illegal for them to do so, but if continued functionality in the presence of exposure to water is expected then the manufacturer will typically qualify their use of the word ‘waterproof’ by stating that the device is waterproof in accordance with a certain standard, such as the IP67 standard mentioned in another post, or they will give a time and a depth or other measure of water pressure. For example, the IP69 standard calls for being able to withstand high-pressure and steam cleaning. The test specifies a spray nozzle that is fed with 80°C water at 8–10 MPa
(80–100 bar) and a flow rate of 14–16 L/min. The nozzle is held 10–15
cm from the tested device at angles of 0°, 30°, 60° and 90° for 30 s
each.
While waiting for a local tri to start, my son spotted a 305 in the lake in about 2 feet deep of water, 10 feet off shore. We fished it out and turn it on. Still had a charge and picked up a signal. Looked at the last workout and it was 3 weeks prior (the day of the last race in that lake) and took 4 hours to go 400 meters so we figured that it shut off by itself. Since there is no rec. swimming the 305 had to be in the lake for 3 weeks. Charged it on our craddle at home and tried to find the owner but never did. My daughter has been using it just fine since then.
