For those who work at desks

Any training equipment I can put under my desk and use throughout the day to get some exercise. I have seen some treadmill desk contraption, but that won’t work in my office cubicle. Maybe there is some mini-cycling equipment or something, or is this not worth it.

Any suggestions?

why dont you work out at lunch instead?

The only thing I can think of that legitimately could make a difference is a stability ball chair.

They had these in the offices of 24 Hour Fitness (if you wanted them) and I can imagine 8 hours a day of sitting straight up on a ball would tighten your core up.

I will bet there is some sort of pedal contraption available that you could spin around while seated at your desk. But you wouldn’t want to sweat all day would you?

For the most part, the only concerns I have with sitting at my desk all day is that I get stiff, sometimes tight/tense, and can get neck/back issues. I mitigate that by getting up regularly, I keep my feet/legs jittering around all the time and I get a lunch time workout in.
Otherwise, sitting at the desk all day is a great way to rest and recover from the rigors of a training load that’s near your system’s maximum.

Get one of these and a trainer:

.

This is what I was thinking about: http://www.amazon.com/Merits-E101-Pedal-Exerciser-Assembled/dp/B000MGG9UC

But as I said…I need rest to recover from the huge morning workouts. Then the afternoon workout. And sometimes the evening workout…

Don’t be that guy.

Instead of training equipment figure out a way to stand up at your desk. I switched to standing a few months ago and I am loving it. I don’t get tired, I don’t get stiff, and studies have shown its much better for you. I put my cpu on top of my desk, put the monitor on top of that, stacked some books on it, then I took a moving crate and put it on my desk for the keyboard and mouse. I am typing at it right now. Its great. Your legs will hurt for the first few days but after that you will adjust. Its great.

+1 on standing. Donate your chair to someone who doesn’t care how long they will live if they have a sedentary life.

haha yeah, not sure about that…getting a cardio workout in a cubicle is going to be tough. probably a stability ball (or the chair version) or standing would be your best bet.

edit: also just get up and walk around once in a while.

It’s only 25 bucks!
