swim, bike, run–what are they like–any insight?
Hey Matt…
I expect you will really enjoy this race. Last year, the first year, was very nice. A good course, great spectator support and good post race goodies.
Swim: You may have heard this - but last year the lake was very weedy. All the way out and back I was wrestling with vegitation. It was a single mass start, which could be a big deal for weaker swimmers. I believe the director got a number of complaints about that, so there may be waves this year. Also as I recall, my swim time was a little slow last year, which led me to believe the course was a little long, but that could have been weeds.
Bike: Nice course… and I believe accurately measured at 40k. Some rolling hills but very few that would cause you to get out of the saddle. Minimal traffic - my only complaint: stinky cattle farms.
Run: the best thing about this race… Flat course, winds through the streets of a sort of RV campground. Many folks out to cheer you on and give you a spray with a garden hose…
Other highlights: A good shirt, longsleeves, not cluttered with sponsor logos. Good post race goodies. And your entry fee goes to charity and its tax deductable.
I’m still thinking about racing myself, I might need the weekend to train for Muncie. Perhaps we could ride back to Kzoo after the race.
