“A bad day for Leipheimer could have been a lot worse, though as the American crashed on the final descent. However Lance Armstrong (Discovery Channel) convinced the peloton that they should wait for Leipheimer to rejoin them before continuing the pursuit of Merckx, Landaluze and the eight other riders who had formed the early break.”
When you are strong…let them think you are weak…or at least that you have a heart. Lance had nothing to loose here…let see if he does that in France eh? (I for one would not)
Well, actually Lance waited for Jan when he fell during a mountain stage in the Tour de France a few years ago. He also persuaded two other riders (Beloki was one) that they should wait as well even though it probably cost both of them at least one place in the final standings.
Actually, Beloki twice attacked Jan during those few minutes after his crash. He went right by Armstrong and Kiviliev (sp?) as they slowed to wait, and forced them to go with him, and then, and this one really takes the cake, at the start of the next climb, a momentary truce was called and all the leaders took turns going back to their team cars to get water bottles, Ullrich was last to go back to the Telekom car, and just as he did, Beloki took off. What a jerk. Ullrich chased him down and went right on by.
I’m not a cycling fan, but I did not think people “hated” Lance because he was a jerk or an unfriendly rider, I thought they slighted him because he only does one race a year … as opposed to someone like Indurain (who even I know about, and Iknow very little about cycling).
WTF are you talking about? there are people here who prefer other athletes (I prefer Ullrich personally), there are people who think he dopes (the same who think the rest of the pro peloton dopes as well), there are people who thinks he is a jerk…but noone hates him here…
maybe we can avoid doing like the media…using words that are far from appropriate to describe something…
nah, just teasing, I know you were joking but at the same time, it’s hard to know on the web, in what mood the other person is and how will the post be interpreted…that was a good one
.
I also think that the level of vitriole directed towards Lance on this “oh yeah, I forgot we’re a peaceful tribe” and other boards does border towards hate. I also reference all those classy individuals who spit on lance and waved with one finger during Alpe D’Huez…
How can you be so bigoted on one hand and now you run away from the “hate” term. Does not seem consistent. (read joke). Why aren’t the Kenyans riding up Mount Ventoux? With their team tactics they seem very suited for the tour. It may be that one bike costs many cows.
By the way I am a big fan of Lance, and Basso, and Hincapie, and Boonen, and…
maybe 6 months ago, I met a black dude riding his bike. very nice guy with old style tri bike, old aerobars etc. chatted for a while and he said…I am a runner, from Kenya. I came here, because I am so slow at home so here I can win a few races, and I ride bikes for fun…so I asked what so slow meant…well, it means 13’30’’ for 5km on track…with that, he is a hopeless runner in Kenya…sick!
