Food scanner for you iPhone folks

I am weakening in my defiance of Apple products, and find myself wanting an iPhone more and more.

Maybe you have seen this or not, but I came across this from Tim Ferris’ twitter. I think this is badass cool. Thumbs up to that guy for creating that app.

I’ll be interested in the iPhone when it’s not tied to ATT’s crappy network.

I have had the iPhone for a couple years. Never had any problem w/ ATT’s network and I travel all over the country. In very rural areas, I will lose 3G, but, I have never completely lost the signal in the Cont. US.

This app is pretty cool.

Just downloaded this. Pretty cool. Wish you could add fruits by their 4 digit code (ie 4011 = bananas). None of the packaged food at my desk (nuts) comes-up yet, but it does capture the bar code. Very cool.

slightly off topic, but does any one have a recommendation for best iphone food diary app? I used the on-line Fit Day for a little while, but they don’t have an iphone app. There is one from LiveStrong, but I’m wondering if there is something better.

Mainly interested in tracking calories and macronutrients. Nothing fancy. Also needs to be able to accept large servings - I think there was one that would only accept 1 serving per entry - so when I eat the whole damn box of cereal it would be a pain.

thanks

Well we all can’t afford Metro PCS…

A friend of mine created/owns/runs the “daily burn”. He’s really into CrossFit, but don’t hold that against him. He’s very excited about the new app! …to say the least.

Try Lose It! Works for me.

Food Journal? WTF is that?

Eat and drink what the hell you want and train enough so that you aren’t mistaken for a member of TNT.

I’ve tried to find a really good app for this as well, but haven’t found much that’s “great” outside of LiveStrong.

The LS app has its shortcomings, for sure, but it seems to have the biggest food database (via Dailyplate). Lots of duplicates, and lots of bugs though make it a bit of a PITA to deal with.

This Food Scanner app might be worth a try - I’m going to install it and see how it does.

food/ iphone related : Whole Foods has a decent free recipe app for finding what to make with what you have.
There have been several bar code reader apps already but most seem to get bad reviews. Hopefully this one works well.

My favorite app right now is ‘Hey Where Are You’. I ping my teenage daughter’s phone and she sends me her location which shows up on a map.
