Can anyone please please help out with some stack and reach numbers for the Focus Izalco Crono, it’s been way too long out of school for me to get my head around the angles and calcs, as soon as I saw Tan I had an immediate headache
I’m looking at this as an option for my Tri bike but as I won’t be able to get a local fitting I’m hoping to get a better feel for fit through the stack and reach numbers.
I’ve had a crack at copying and pasting the pics and measurements direct into the forum but can’t seem to get it to work…so here’s a link, if anyone has the time of the energy would be a big help.
Thanks,
Nathan

Ok found a bit of time to do a bit more research and sorted the stack and reach numbers.
The medium has a Stack = 506 and Reach = 424 and from perusing the stack and reach page looks like this falls in the long and low category, also purely on the stack and reach number fits pretty much smack bang in the middle of the Cervelo P3 54-56 sizing. Now for the hard part will it fit me…I’m 179cm tall and like to ride reasonably steep, which I think I should be able to do on this frame with the seat all the way forward on a 76 degree seat angle.
Just not sure on sizing anyone have any opinions? or for those of similar height to me with fairly standard body types what sort of stack and reach (or cervelo P3 size) are you riding?
Cheers,
Nathan
I’ll keep replying to myself, at least it keeps my thoughts organised and should someone with more knowledge than me want to jump in and lend a hand, that would be great too
Running a few fit scenarios using static tri-fit system I figure that I need a cockpit length of 77.3cms which means I will have circa 30cm of room from the top/head tube junction to the bar ends. I arrived at the 30cm figure by taking away the distance behind the BB the middle of my saddle sat which was 14.8cms from the cockpit length leaving 62.5cms then take away the bikes Reach measurements gives 20cms, however, I then added an additional 10cm given the cockpit distance is from saddle nose and the arione is 12cm from the front of the usable rails to the tip, (left off 2cms to be conservative).
End result is 30cms to play with in front of the bike…I’m just not sure if that is enough, guess it depends on the bars how far back the pads are that kind of thing.
Few more stats for anyone interested in throwing their two cents worth in.
Total height: 179cm
Inseam: 88cm
Saddle height: 77cm
Cock Pit length: 77.3cm
Adjusted Seat tube angle: 79 degrees (using an arione slid forward on a 76 seat post to end up with an effective 79 degree angle)
Stack: 50.6cms
Reach: 42.4cms
Cockpit length: 77.3cms of which only 4.8cms sits behind the saddle (from the tip of the nose)

Depending on the bike, a 76deg bike can be hard to get steep enough. Unfortunately, a lot depends on how they measure it, specifically, how they measure it in relation to the seat-clamp hardware. If the hardware is forward of the line they measure through, you should be fine. If it is aft - as it was on the Kuota Kalibur - you are probably SOL. If it is in the middle, it will depend on the saddle you ride and how steep you want to go. I get a similar measurement for reach. Stack is tricky because fork offset, crown height, etc. all play a role. It is a low bike, probably low enough. I generally don’t worry too much about getting stack super accurate, which is good, because it is much harder to do than reach.
I get 424 as well for reach BUT that’s off the assumption that the geometry chart is laid out the way you think - i.e., that it’s a level top tube, which seems reasonable, but is still a risk.
Thanks Rappstar good points, I’ve made a few queries around the seat-post angle and clamping mechanism see what they come back with.
I still need to run through what sort of length and room I’ll need at the front end, whilst I have an approximate cockpit length I need to break it down looking at stem, pads and extensions. At the moment looks like I’ve around 30-32cms to play with.

Supplier confirmed the Izalco has a dual position seat post, which places this bike along the same geometry lines and set-up options as P3/P4 albeit with fewer sizes, but luckily for me it will work. Besides looking at Stack and reach, I love this sight so much info, I have also consulted with a respected local fitter who will do the fine tuning once it arrives.
Can’t wait to finally get my hands on a TT bike, oh and it come with Zip 808’s, bonus
NatFal,
Did you ever end up getting the chrono? I am looking at one and am running into the same thing you were worried about (seat post angle).
How’d your fit end up going? I am pretty discouraged by the slack seat post angle and would only consider it if it had variability, more specifically, a steeper angle.
Thanks!
