FOCUS bikes (1)

So I ordered a 2014 Focus several months ago and there is no clear understanding of when it will arrive. It sounds to me like they aren’t even in the states yet. I could be wrong on that. Does anyone know any details? It’s pretty lame that I have to wait literally 1/2 way into the year to get a $9K bike.

just curious…why Focus? You could have easily went to any shop and walked out with a Cervelo, Felt, Specialized, Trek, etc.

The analogy I’d draw is why buy an Aston Martin or Maserati or Hennessey when someone can buy Porsche 911 or Chevy Corvette ZR1 or Nissan GT-R and get more performance, an ample supply of local dealers, and perhaps much better reliability (and likely at a lower cost?). Sometimes the choice of a ride isn’t solely about performance numbers, availability, or even reliability. Sometimes it’s about what stirs someone emotionally or what’s different than every other ride on the road.

I rode a Trek (road bike) and a Cervelo (tri bike) until very recently and ditched them for a Litespeed and a Merckx. I completely understand not wanting to buy a bike that several others in my cycling group ride. That said, Cervelo, Felt, Specialized, and Trek make amazing bikes that often end up on the podium in major races. But does that mean everyone on ST should ride the same 5 or 6 bikes?

Or maybe he just found the Focus would fit him better…

Maserati MC12 is better than any Porsche 911 or any Corvette. Nissan GT-R is another matter though. I would say a Focus is more like a Pagani, McClaren or Koenigsegg…boutique (for US), expensive, equally as fast/high performance but perhaps a little more effort required (buying, servicing, etc). The 2014 Izalco TT looks gorgeous and fast. Plus Focus aren’t exactly small, and sponsor a World Tour team. BTW, an Aston Martin One-77 is the car I would get if money was no object (and availability)…looks effing amazing, very high performance (super/hypercar territory), and still luxurious.

I am on a team that is sponsored by Focus. My “bike guy” sells them. I like the frame style compared to the Shiv, for example which is very functional, but really ugly in my opinion. Cervelo is super nice too but I decided for the price it was well worth it to go with the Focus. Focus also has made leaps and bounds in their quality since 2010/11. Read some of the reviews of the Izalco Pro.

Actually, you said it perfect. :). Certainly besides the price, the Izalco fit me very well. I don’t have fit/feel comparison with Cervelo, but I felt better on the Focus than I have on a Felt, Orbea and Trek of similar models. My first bike was a Litespeed…Loved it.

That is pure foolishness

There is a triathlon store here in Raleigh, NC that is a Focus dealer. It’s called Tri Life. http://www.trilife.co They have Focus bikes in the shop

I have a 2011 or 2012 Focus Pro and it is the stiffest road bike I’ve ever ridden. Great racing bikes.

Performance Bikes used to sell them a few years ago and I found a selection at Jenson:

Perhaps you can call them up and get the model you want.

Why not?

I was only asking because of the delay he has. If he needed a bike sooner, than go with what’s easier. That’s why I said “why Focus?” Of course everyone has different preferences beyond the big 4 brands

oic…all cool Just curious to know your take on Focus.

I’ve seen a few of their road and tri bikes. Honestly…it didn’t seem any better or worse than anything else on the market. I’m a huge data numbers freak so I base my purchases off the aero numbers more than anything. If I could see tunnel data on Focus, that would be cool.

Focus makes decent bikes, but “Pagani, McClaren or Koenigsegg”?

Come on!
