Hey all, I’m interested in getting a foam roller, particularly for help with a tight IT band, and for other leg work too. There are a lot of size available, and since I’m cheap, I just want to get one that will work for everything I need.
From looking around, I’m thinking 6" diameter and 1-2’ long. Can’t figure why I’d need the 3’ long one.
Get the three footer. The shorter ones are crap. There’s not enough surface area on the one footer. The two footer might work, but I even think that one might be a little short.
I’m a small guy 5’10, 135-140 and the three-foot model works perfect.
these are really great and have helped my ITB issues and lower back issues for over a year. the longer one is better as well because you can use it the whole length of the back. so it would be length wise on the spine. it’s also great on the sacrum area. good luck rolling!
the noodles definitely won’t work. they are too thin and soft. you have to go with the real thing. i know i tried. we got our at Power Systems! gotta go, gotta roll!
OK, I’m a dork for trying to save $10, but since I don’t own any significant piece of tri-gear that I didn’t get on closeout or used, I just have a default position to look for the cheaper alternative.
Thanks for the info. all, I’m going to drop the $20 (w/shipping) for the real 3’ deal.
A inexpensive roller can be constructed from one of the larger (6" exterior diameter) better quality swim noodles of that has a hollow center (approx 3/4" diameter). Get a wooden dowel or broom stick and force it into the center. For about $7.00 I made two 3’ rollers that are soft enough to contour to your anatomy but hard enough for self massage/myofascial release.
