Flying a bike with Frontier Airlines

After reading about so many horror stories about flying bikes, I thought I would post some kudos for Frontier. I flew my bike in a Triall3 hard case (the custom road), and it was only $50 each way! No hassle by the agents, no worries, and just $100 for the round trip. Bike came through with flying colors. Anyway, if you need to fly a bike, and Frontier is an option, check them out. They didn’t even charge me for a second bag with the bike…just straight up $50.

Same thing with Southwest and USA 3000. Flew both of them this month. Never hassled, always $50 each way. I wasn’t even charged for luggage (and I checked 2 additional bags on SW).

I just booked my flight to Florida 70.3 on Frontier… $50 bike fee=niiiice.

Same here with Frontier, never an issue with the bike. I have to believe it has something with being based out of Denver. They see lots of bikes and skis, so understand this client.

Once out of DIA, the check in line was out the door. A door agent came up to me and said all bikes go to a certain window. That window had no line. That was worth $50.00 alone, saved an hour of standing and snaking bike case and gear through the maze.

I hope they make it past chapter 11.

I have to agree that Frontier policies on flying with a bike are second to none. I flew from NY to Denver and had no hassle at either airport. My hardcase, however, must have met a hamfisted handler because both wheels were broken off by the time I reached Denver. Probably just bad luck but Frontier was not very receptive to the idea that they should replace my $400 bike case.

I’m a Summit member with Frontier and fly with them several times a month. I have also found them to be very good with bikes. Their policy is consistent and reasonably priced. I think $50 is a reasonable price to ship a bike. I have flown my bike probably 10 times with them in the past 3 years and have never had a problem.

Is that $50, including connections? I ask because we’ve a connection to catch from SA to Denver; Denver, Spokane.

(For those who followed the other thread, yes, I’m back in for CdA. M’lady & I talked and got to the root of the difficulties with our lack of time together. As of press time, everything is a go: Ironman ; grad school ; wedding . Thanks for everyone who chimed in with their thoughts, especially AmyCO & Cerveloguy. See you elsewhere in the forums.)
