Florida 70.3 - Accomodations

Did some searching but the threads are all quite old. For those who have travelled into town for the race, where did you stay in Haines City? There aren’t many hotels in the area, so it seems like staying more towards Orlando or Tampa/Lakeland is the only option.

There are a lot of vacation rentals, but for a solo traveler it’s less than ideal.

Happy to hear suggestions!

Hi Callin-

Many people stay over in the Winter Haven area. It’s about a 25 min drive to Haines City and there’s a decent variety of hotels there.

I stayed at the Hilton Vacation Club Mystic Dunes when I was there last year. I was traveling solo, and it worked out just fine. It’s a little bit of a drive, 35 minutes or so, but it helped being a little closer to the Orlando airport for Friday’s arrival and the early Monday departure.

Thanks guys, will check out those areas.

Any feedback or other recommendations for the race, in general?

There a few hotels near I-4 in the Davenport/Four Corners area. When I did not live in the area, I would stay there. Clermont is a bit further north of Davenport, but you would be close to the National Training Center (great pool), Waterfront Park (paved trail great for running), and some riding in the area. There always seem to be a few AirBnbs in the area closer to Lake Eva, but with the race being in December that may change availability.

I’ve stayed at the courtyard in Winter Haven multiple times as well as the Hyatt House and Hyatt Place across from Universal.

All 3 were super easy to get to the race. The Marriott is closer but tends to book up earlier.

I’m staying at the IHG Staybridge Suites in Winter Haven.

There are some hotels you would never stay in inside Haines City but they fill up with athletes and are safe during race week. Cheap and close. I’ve done the race three times and stayed in them with my family. They should show up if you search motels and hotels in the area on Google maps.
