Flo 30 vs Zipp 30

I’m comparing these wheels for a new set of training wheels this year. Flo is cheaper than Zipp and looks to be very similar. Thoughts? Anyone have these wheels?

The wheel profiles don’t look that similar, if anything - the Flo 30 seems to resemble a Zipp 202.

The flo is very aero and cheaper.
The Zipp is not at all aero and more expensive.

The zipp might be more durable or something. might not.

It looks like the Zipp 101 was similar to the Flo 30 but Zipp got rid of that for a cheaper design with the Zipp 30
.

Just get the Flos. They are terrific wheels and a great price. In my opinion, the Zipp 30 is more expensive only because of the Zipp name and not because it is any better. I built up a new bike last year with Flo 30’s and rode them hard all year and they have been rock solid.

Regarding the post directly below: yes, tires were hard to get on. But in my experience, this can have as much to do with the tire as with the wheel. And in my experience, tough to mount usually means they’ll stay well. This is not a reason to not get the Flos.

Flos are the worst for installing tires. Not kidding.

No they’re not. They’re the second worst. The Jet+ rims are the worst. Trust me, I know

Eventually I’m going to have to take that 22mm Attack off my front and replace it…

I’m not worried about that. I bought a Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack because the Kurt Kinetic Trainer Tire is so hard to get on. I’m just looking for reasons not to buy the Zipps. http://www.amazon.com/Kool-Stop-Tire-Bead-Jack/dp/B001AYML7K

Well you can’t buy the Flo 30’s right now so that is always an issue, sort of hard to own a product that is not for sale. The zipp 30 is a solid wheel, we outfitted a local road racing team with them and they were really good training wheels. Most guys were putting in around 8k miles a year on them with no problems. In the end there is probably no real difference one way or another. If i was going to spend 800 for training wheels i would have wheelbuilder build up a pair of pancetti or HED’s with white industry hubs.

Just wait and get the Flos. All the aerodynamics of the 202 but with the training durability of the Zipp 30. The price difference isn’t to be sniffed at either.

Go with the FLO’s. I picked up a pair late last year and have loved them. BUT, don’t expect the black braking surface to stay black and look stealthy forever.

Love my Zipp’s, never failed me once. They are a bit on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. Just my opinion, if you’re able to get them… It’ll be you last set of wheels…

It’ll be you last set of wheels…

Have you actually ridden zipps every day for 20 years?

Someone has a set of Zipp 30’s wheelset for $625 in the classifieds! Jump on it =)

I had the same rim when it was the SRAM S30. The only difference is color, hub, and CX ray spokes. Those will make a difference, but the rim is nothing special. Old technology in my opinion. There wasn’t a very smooth transition between the tire and brake track. If I were buying alu clinchers today they would be the FLOs.
