Flip-Flop hubs - Capo, Langster, Madison, others?

Does anyone own one of these “track” bikes with a flip-flop rear hub (fixed/freewheel)? any thoughts?

Specialized Langster - new $660 (i think)

Cannondale Capo - new $800 (another educated guess)

Schwinn Madison - new $525 (nice bike, I might get one unless the others are worth the extra money)

are there any other production “flip-flops” that I should look at?

I have a Bontrager track wheel that has a flip-flop on it, but i’ve never used the free wheel side only fixed gear.

I put it on an old road bike to make it a fixie. it works GREAT!!!

I have a Phil Wood flip-flop. T’aint cheap, but it’s nice. Surly makes a nicely-priced flip-flop as MC notes.

I am way to cheep to have a flip flop hub.
both my fixed gear bikes have old school 5 speed hubs and tubies.
I would just get what my LBS had if i were you.
I ride with my LBS folks
I would get the bike you like the best not the cheepest.
I have fenders on one fixie so it needs dropouts with eyelets to mount fenders or space for fat tires if you cycle cross or ride in bad weather.
make sure it has the right stuff you need for two water bottles.
I don’t like schwinn .
But thats just me.

good luck dirt

found a guy on e-bay that will put any size Dawes Lightning SST at your doorstep for $300 - cheap steel bike with a flip-flop that will serve its purpose for this winter. If I use it, I’ll think about upgrading later.

check e-bay under “single speed” and you can get the same deal
