Flea runs LA marathon in 3:53

How does a guy who bounces around on stage then parties all night run so easily on 6 months training?

Imagine what time Iggy Pop could do

you are not suggesting that 3:53 is fast by any means? Anybody with some athletic ability should be able to pull that off with 6 months training.

I’m with the first responder. Flea has like 4% body fat and is a spark plug. I would think he would be capable of going much lower unless he literally had never run before.

Did anyone test him for PEDs?

Granted it’s not blazing fast, but for a 48 year old rookie finishing 265 of 1265 in his age group is quite respectable IMHO. (Then again the results page lists a couple of sub 2hr finishers in the M45-49 so I don’t know what to make of any results.)

we’re talking about a guy running close to 4hrs in the LA marathon. We didn’t talk about Lance Armstrong

Funny enough, he actually looks like a runner. When I walked into the starting corral I saw him in the back of the Sub 4:00 corral stretching, rocking his Kinvaras and I remember thinking to myself that he could be a pretty fast runner.

I agree with some of the above posts though, a 3:50 something isn’t unreasonable for a lean, reasonably fit person that trained for 6 months. Although, I would say it’s still somewhat impressive.

hes a vegan, it helps.

Have you ever run the LA marathon? I’ve run three of their different courses over 7 times (they seem to change the course a lot based on who is on the city council), but not this year (or for the last three). The LA marathon is actually pretty hard, and this year it is was pouring rain. Plus some guy on 6 months of training is respectable.

I’ve seen Flea training down on the trails in Sycamore canyon. He was set a fast pace, and looked damm fit. Not suprised by his speed.

You should try the new course, it’s a lot better than the old one. This year the rain (and temperature) heavily biased the field - a LOT of the middle and back of the pack runners dropped out, or didn’t start at all. LA is kind of known for mild/warm temperatures and a lack of rain - exactly the opposite of race day. Many of the runners were not prepared for it.
In the starting corral Flea was saying something along the lines of this was his first long run.

It’s 3:53 for a marathon, no I’m not impressed. Good for him but just because marathons have become a thing to do for the lazy and the fat that walk the entire thing does not mean that we should be impressed with a nearly 4hr marathon. Somewhere in Kenya kids are laughing at this thread.

Now, he can place a 26.2 decal next to his BlackFlag decal on his mercedes.

Come on guys, runs… Hehehe…, shouldn’t it be, finishes…

6 months prep?! Holey moley! Did he crossfit marathon prep his way to that time or what!

I’d rather see Flea and Iggy cane it in a 5k than watch paint dry at that pace!

These dudes are cut and athletic looking, but Flea jogging a marathon, it just goes to show you that 26.2 is a long way…

(smiley face for those who are offended easily).

Lighten up Francis if that’s you!

thanks for posting this, i enjoyed it.
i will make sure to play some chili’s during my trainer session today)

and i bet that, like boxers, rock stars have high anaerobic thresholds.
think of jumping with that intensity for 4-5 minutes, with short breaks in between.

he would probably make a better short distance runner or sprinter

Isn’t it supposed to be “I saw a Black Flag sticker on a Cadillac”?

Dude, you try running a marathon in these and report back on how easy it was to run 3:53  BTW, maybe the kids in Kenya are laughing, but what about their 48 year old dads who started running 6 months ago?

Did he do it with just a sock around his junk? If not, non-story.

I would be psyched to play any instrument the equivalent of a 3:53 marathoner. That is to say, better than 95% of the general public … I would also rather be as good a muscian as Flea than be able to run as fast as whoever won the race …
