Flat Base Bars

Looking to replace the basic round aluminum base bar having upturned ends with a new base bar preferably with out upturned ends. Want to transfer over the clip ons and the Cane Creek brake levers so integrated bars are out and I don’t want/need integrated brake levers.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have searched on-line but wandered if others on ST had recommendations.

I just ordered the new Zipp Vuka base bar. It’s the lightest and reportedly strongest, is priced @ 230 and seemingly has the most flexibility for moving the clip-ons “out wide” as that is a requirement of mine.

Also, they seem to have the best ‘stack’ flexibility. neat system.

the new profile design svet, prosvet, and zerosvet bars are really awesome.

try the pro synop hf tt bar. fairly cheap

The DIY version - I just simply cut off the upturns on my profile bars.

That’s what I’ve got, quite happy with them

May also want to check out the Felt Bayonet aluminium base bar. I went from a vision base bar to the bayonet and like it. It has no upturn and is quite a bit narrower.

Look for a HED Vantage 8 - no longer in production, but still a decent number of mint/gently used ones floating around. That thing is sweet: light, very deep/aero (not UCI legal), no flex.

That was my first thought but I figured I would check and see if there was a simple and not too expensive solution that was ready-made.

Seeing the price of the ready made options, I think the tubing cutter is going to come out.

Thanks to all who responded.

Yeah, it took longer for my paint job to dry than to make it. Although if your profile bars are similar to mine, I had to file the inside of the handles because the hole puncher that PD uses to punch the housing routing makes it hard to get brakes in there. I then concealed it with some metal foil tape and painted over it.

Bumping an old thread.

Asking about the Pro Synop Hydroform TT Bars.

Do they have the “holes” for the brake cables/housing to enter the bars under the handles or do I need center-pull style brake levers?

It’s mentioned as “Internal Brake Cable Routing”, so I’m not very sure and I’ve yet to find anyone who can advice me on it.
(Better still, a picture of the underside of the bars.)

Just a FYI, I intend to install Cane Creek 200TT Brake Levers on them.

Thanks.

I can’t recall if there is a hole near the brake levers as I haven’t changed the tape in a while and don’t specifically look for that but I am using sram 500 tt levers.

Just googled the cane creek 200TT brake levers and found this: http://www.bikeradar.com/...k-200tt-levers-28802

So they should work

Thanks for the quick response!

Anyway can’t believe I didn’t see this…

The exact base bar/brake lever combination I was looking for.

Thanks all.
