Flashpoint vs. Real Design

I have a pair of Real Design 60mm Wheels that came with my litespeed back in 2004. From what I can tell, it is just a carbon fairing on an aluminum rim. Are Zipp’s Flashpoint wheels any different than this?

FP 60’s are made from 404 tooling circa 2004 and the carbon is structural.

I’m confused. I have a Real Design 60mm wheel, and the spokes appear to attach directly to the CF. And the hub says Flashpoint. So is there any difference between Real Design and Flashpoint?

If the hubs say Flashpoint that means the wheels are actually Flashpoints with Real design logos on it. If the hub says Real Resign then the wheel is Real Design. Early wheels were all Real Design, later wheels were Flashpoints.

Rokko: you gotta take off those ugly Real Design labels and ride those babies nude. If you really feel compelled to put advertisements on your wheels you can order replacement labels from FP. I have some on my nude carbon Lucero and it looks all stealthy black…like the Batmobile!

TriMike: Thanks for the input! I’ve been thinking of taking the decals off. I’m in the process of building the bike, and I just got the wheel from a fellow ST’er. It’s brand spanking new, and right now I can’t think of taking the decals off until the bike is at least put together. Once it is all together and I’ve seen it’s ‘factory look’, I probably will take the decals off. Then maybe add my own, like I did on a different wheel:

The carbon on my FP wheels looks like its a lot more than just a fairing. I’d say its structural although the rim and tire bed are aluminum of course.

In this thread there’s more details about the FP80 from Josh @ ZIPP: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1185130;page=1;mh=-1;;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC
