Fizik Arione or San Marco Aspide

My doctor told me to get a new saddle… I am currently on a selle slk and want to switch to either a fizik arione or the san marco aspide - anyone have any input on which is better for use in the aero position? I like the look of the arione better but can’t decide… Anyone put significant miles on both? Which one is easier on the genitals?

I vote for the Fizik arione. I have only had it for 1 week but love it. Read the review by bikesportmichigan at www.bikesportmichigan.com/reviews/arione.shtml.

Good luck.

Ive put a lot of miles on both, I’d say it depends entirely on how you sit when you ride. If you sit on the tip, the apside trigel is the best thing going. If you sit back where your ‘supposed’ to sit, the arione is much more comfortable for me. I used to sit on the tip, now I’ve moved back to a slack seat angle, and sit normally on the saddle. I switched from the apside to the arione about 8 weeks ago and couldn’t be happier.

I like the Azoto, here is a review also.

Great question…

I own a shop and get to test a few things every now and then…

I have tried the aspide and the azoto, and realize i sit back in the saddle. I always end up back on my fizix nisene, which is a mtb saddle…

The azoto and aspide is selling very well in Oz, and i’ve only had 1 azoto given back to me.

End story is, why did he tell you to get a new seat (more info pls) and secondly, find a shop that has a return policy on saddles, cause at the end of the day, we all have a different comfort zone…

goodnight

Numbness - etc the usual. He said get a new saddle immediately - I now have quite a collection - Selle SLK (makes me very numb), Terry liberator (haven’t tested yet but dont think this will make it to races - could be a good training option), just ordered the Arione cause it looks cool and bikepsortmichigan says to try it… (the mindless consumer that I am I just blindly do as bikesportmichigan says…) I also have a big box of other saddles made by selle, bontrager and a stock giant one - I think I’ve had better luck with saddles with holes in them - the san marco looks painful to me so I am going with the Arione for now. The worst part about bikes has got to be what they do to your nuts

The Aspide is only a slight improvement over the SLK. The Selle Era K or the Flite is a better budget choice that would rival the Arione.

Two suggestions. Don’t know if they will or will not apply…

First, how do you ride? Tuck your knees in tight next to the top tube. Riding with a ‘knees out’ riding style is not only less aerodynamic, but it causes the saddle to put more pressure on soft tissue.

Second, use the whole saddle. That’s the potential (only?) advantage of the Arione IMHO (not sure if the saddle’s ability to ‘break in’ is real or simply marketing hype). A long saddle with it’s tapered width allows for varied pressure distribution as you vary where you sit. Slide forward or back on the saddle more often to relieve some of the discomfort.

I have both. I ride the Arione on my road bike and the Aspide trigel on the tri bike. IMHO the Arione is too stiff in the nose if you’re riding in the aero position on the forward part of the saddle.

of the two, i’ve only been on the aspide, but let me tell you, if your riding a significant number of miles in the aero position, i don’t know what can rival it. i can’t say that i know anything about the arione, but if you are riding aero, the aspide is my saddle of choice. if you are riding the aspide and you are not aero it can get a bit uncomfortable, but, if you have got that saddle on the bike, that should not be the case very often.
