Why gravel tri even? Someone will always have that bike that you blame for having unfair advantage. Why not go fixed gear (with brakes). Me and wife will do one at our free club tri in fall.
Got this baby for $50, $25 hub/axle repair, added the brakes for $25
I’d be all over this! Let’s also weigh the bikes on the way into transition. Take the total time in minutes, per pound your bike weighs, off your total time. I believe my old Schwinn was pretty close to 50 pounds
Why have another novelty event? Why not stop making excuses and just race triathlon?
Uh, because it’s fun. You remember fun right? It’s what you do before you start taking yourself so seriously (but after you realise that you suck and will never become a pro).
There’s nothing wrong with equipment limitations, otherwise bring on the velomobiles. Or fuck it, add a motor and we can create the Isle of Man TT-Tri.
Quality trolling.
There is no need for “mountain” Xterra triathlons, but they are super cool.
The idea of a “gravel” triathlon, MUCH less cool.
Fixed gear bike messenger races through major American cities are cool af.
A fixed gear “triathlon”. Nope. Hipsters don’t give a flying fuck about your desire to fast.
Gravel and fixed gear are for micro-brew people, winter riders, and slow fucks with mustaches and plaid shirts.
The idea that any of these cucks would compete outside of Redhood and DK is pretty laughable.
I did a fixed gear Tri when my buddy backed the car with roof rack under the neighbors carport and broke all four of the guys bikes riding inside. We had to do a scramble to find appropriate rides so I gave a buddy my cross bike and rode the fixed gear bike. Legs get really tired riding a 70 inch fixed gear on a rolling course as hard as you can for an hour I remember.
Butterfly swim, fixed gear bike, barefoot run. Do it.
May be if it was 400m swim.
I wonder how triathlon run times would be affected by fixed gear requirements. ITU should do 1 WTS event having fixed or cx bike course… only place all pros have nearly same bike and it would be potential to partner with a bike brand

Now isn’t that a novel idea!
(edit add): Because this wouldn’t profit the bike industry, that has convinced so many of us we need a different bike for every day of the week, every type of distance, speed, terrain, etc…

Yesss.
Me and my wife have each : tri bike, roadie commuter, roadie distance, fixie.
Total 8 bikes. Wish I had a CX bike in my collection. Had one before but it was stolen from me

Depending on how flat or hilly the bike course is, you’re on to something, it would impact the run after it affects the bike.
How about swim, followed by the fixed fat tire bike on the beach, followed by a barefoot run on the sand, followed by beer/food on the beach.

Make it happen and they will come.
I know im being trolled, but im thinking with the respect of the redhook and mission crits, there is a market to be sought,

Not trolling you. Usually I’m the one getting flamed for wanting some parity with bike equipment. My thoughts are that >$1000 bikes are good for the bike industry and not for the sport. Some just stick with swimming or running because they can’t justify that money for a bike.
I have seen some redhook one TV of and it looks exciting. I’d go for a fixie/single gear triathlon; yet, terrain is an issue.
As much as some people complain about SUVs, few are complaining about bikes >$5000. A >$5000 bike could kill me if I tried to keep up with it and it’s rider. lol
