Fitting the Giant TCR Composite 2014 for Tri

Hi folks,
my first post to the forum…

Doing my first season of triathlon training, aiming for Copenhagen IM in August.

Have gotten myself a Giant TCR Composite 2014 road bike.

In order to improve my position on the bike, I’ve equipped it with clip-on aerobars. My position, when using the bars, is however too far back (elbow angle > 90 degrees).

I have looked into the possibility of getting a dual-position seatpost, such as the one manufactured by Redshift, but this is not an option given the odd shape of the Giant’s seatpost.

Any suggestions for decreasing the distance between the saddle and the aerobars?

Thanks in advance!

Giants are unique with those seat posts. With some Tri-specific saddles the rails are long enough you can slide the saddle forward a bit more than a normal road saddle but that’s not really ideal.

Best bet for now is just get a comfortable aero position and not stress about what exact angle you have here or there

Thanks, I’ll go with your advice. Saddle is already at the frontmost position, which, as you point out, is not quite enough.

.

Redshift Switch Aero System is a no-brainer for this. http://www.redshiftsports.com/

I need to post on the biomechanic and aerodynamic data we have from testing the Redshift products. Just need the time to do it!

The challenge with the TCR is that is has a pretty low seat angle. To confirm, you’ve got the saddle rails as forward as you can go, but have you also rotated the saddle clamp around setting it to the +5 position? That saddle clamp is built to allow a -20 or a +5 position. If you’re not at the +5, that should buy you another inch or so of forward movement.

Interesting, thanks!

Didn’t know the clamp could be rotated. Will try it straight away. Thanks!

Jim, sorry, but is that to be understood as that the redshift saddlepost could actually be used with the Giant TCR?

No, my bad, I thought Giant had done away with their integrated seat post on the TCR. Sorry about that.

There is a good set of instructions in this thread (buried in the disagreement):

Moving the offset up really saved this bike for me.

Ah… ok  no problemo

Excellent. Cheers.
