So my mom started doing a daily walk around the block for exercise. She is NOT tech savvy and while she owns a computer, she doesn’t use it often.
I was thinking about getting her a fitbit zip for the holidays. Does anyone have experience with this device? How about alternatives? Budget is about $50.
The Fitbit Zip is easy to use and if she carries a smart phone, it will upload and save the data as well. Remind her that she should aspire to get 10,000 steps in per day.
The education she will receive is what a difference the daily walk makes in her activity level versus staying sedentary. That alone, may be worth the investment.

I’ve used Nike Fuel, BodyMedia, Polar Loop, Jawbone up and the fitbit was the only one that was easy to use, would sync automatically without any hickups, had a web page as well as a phone app, and just works. I used a Fitbit One, which is basically the rechargeable version of the zip.
The sleep numbers are a little low - they will give about 30-45 minutes less sleep per night.
My wife loves hers and looks forward to the congratulatory emails if she sets a PB. Her favorite was her PB for flights of stairs. She forgot to turn it off when we drove through the Smoky Mountains in TN. I think it was like 500 flights of stairs in one day. That ones out of reach…
