Hi,
First off, I know I should probably just get a bike fit. But I found a good deal second-hand and want to move quickly. So looking for some insights from the experts on the forum.
Background: I’m a long-time cyclist, 29 years old, and bike nerd who loves to build bikes. But I have no experience with TT bikes. I’m getting into triathlon (signed up for a 70.3 next year) and found a nice deal on a second-hand frameset that I want to build up as a winter project.
Size: I’m 184cm with a 86cm inseam (6ft tall, 33.8" inseam). This puts my saddle heigt at around 76 cm (30") depending on saddle fore and aft. I usually ride 56cm road bikes, and size Large MTBs. I really like pedaling position the steeper seat tube angle on my MTB and gravel bike (around 74.5°) that puts me more over the BB. The TT bike will be even steeper.
The bike i’m looking at is a XL (size 58cm) Lapierre Aerostorm DRS (2023). I compared this bike to the different recommended sizes I could find for mainstream brands based on their online calculators:
- Canyon Speedmax in a size M
- Trek Speedconcept in a size L
With the newer trends of longer reach and higher stack, the Lapierre actually seems to be fine for my size when compared these bikes. The main concern I have is with the 58cm seat tube length. This would mean the seat tube is definitely on the short side.
Any insights from the bike fit gurus on this forum?
Many thanks!
