Well folks, today I tried out my new P-flex for the first time. I must say I was quite impressed. I used it in an outdoor pool. Conditions were outdoor temp. of 63 degrees F with a pool water temp. of 81 degrees F. I donned the wetsuit at poolside and I didn’t bring any vegetable spray or baby oil with me so it was a little tough getting it on and I needed my son to zip me up but once I jumped in the pool I new immediately this was one nice, buoyant wetsuit. I am 5’ 10" and 195 lbs., muscular build and I purchased a size 9. I was a little concerned out of the water as it seemed to be quite snug in the upper torso but once I started stroking I new I wasn’t going to have any problems with restriction of movement. Seemed to have good flexibility in the armpit region and as mentioned already, it was extremely buoyant. It normally takes me 17 strokes to get across a 25 yard pool and in my new P-flex it took me only 9 strokes the first length I swam. And that was with me barely kicking. The suit just seems so fast. The suit is also warm and after swimming 1/3 mile I didn’t feel overheated. At this point I concluded my trial swim with the P-flex and finished the remainder of the work-out in my swim trunks. I previously swam in a QR sleeveless Ultrajohn and I must say that swimming in a full-suit feels alot different. I was concerned about possibly feeling restricted but after today’s trial swim, I no longer have this concern. For me it was a good purchase especially considering that I took advantage of their special offer and received a free sleeveless Speedsuit. I will soon trial this wetsuit and post my thoughts.
I also just did a test swim in my new Pflex. I had the same experience: I thought it might be a bit tight, especially in the arm area, but when swimming it was fine. I only lasted 250y, because it was way too hot in the 82 degree pool. Very bouyant, very form fitting, nice suit.
I currently use the Orca Pred 2 and my only complaint is tightness in the shoulder area. Recently our tri club got to try out both the P Flex and QR Superfull and I found the P Flex to be an improvement over the Pred 2 in terms of flexibility. However, I felt the Superfull was much more flexible in shoulders and felt awesome in the water. In any case, I won’t be upgrading anytime soon but would recommend anyone in the market to purchase a new suit to give them both a try and see which ones feels better.
I agree that the Superfull is more flexible in the shoulders. I really liked the Superfull. I tried both and I really wanted the Superfull. It just seemed like a really awesome, well-made suit with lots of features. I ultimately bought the PFlex because it was a much better fit for my body type. I also tried the T1, but the top just didn’t fit me well.
