Snowing most of the day here. It had stopped by the time I ran this evening, but I had to go very slowly through the turns because the road was covered with a nice sheen of ice. Air temp 22 degrees, wind chill of 8. I had a 5 degree wind chill run over the weekend. I guess winter is here.
We had about 6" but it is snowing so hard today that visibility is an issue. We should get around 8" more before it stops which will open the rest of the xc ski trails. Hoooray!
When I was at UIUC I never understood why anybody would ever go running in the Armory! WTF is up with that? Same for all them chicks running at IMPE and watching TV at the same time! WTF? Nonono, I’m definitely an outdoor person. And considering the Illinois terrain, the worst you can encounter is some snowdrifts and the cold.
Have a look at my current running environment: http://www.pilzewelt.de/Forum/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=2362
Pics are from last year but it looks pretty much like that now! Nothing like being the very first person on a “virginesque” snowy trail!
My problem with Illinois is that it’s insanely cold, but there are no fun cold things to do. No cross-country skiing, no snowshoeing, no speedskating. Just drifts that get pushed to the side of the road and turn black. Bring on graduation!!!
We’ve had snow but nothing sticking. 35, snow- rain. Honestly, at this point, I’d prefer it just stuck. That way I could actually get outside. 35 and rain is the worst imaginable.

Absolutely true. 35 and rain sucks.
A few years ago we were lining up for the start of a road race. It was the first weekend of April and it was COLD. It started snowing just before the start of the race. One guy called out, “It could be worse; it could be raining.”
we tend to be lodged in this period of “not fall… not winter” type London weather where it is just that- 2 degrees and rain. not cold enough for a firm freeze, but just enough to chill the bones.

I hear ya, man! I’m still aiming for that Berkeley Ph.D. position for a good academics/weather combo;) 0.4% grad acceptance rate certainly makes it exciting!
