Finally Cracked the 300W FTP-Test Barrier

I’m usually a very humble person, but I am too excited about yesterday’s FTP test to not brag…just a little.

I got on the trainer last night to see where my body is at early on in the winter training. Legs very good and strong as the 5 minute effort was much higher than it had been in previous tests. I took that confidence right into the 20 minute test and got going hard early. I was 320-325 for the first 3 minutes or so before settling into the high 31x range. The average was slowly dropping 319, 318, 316 as I struggled the final 5 minutes, but I was able to grind out the final 1:30 to hold off and finish with 316 average watts, for my new FTP off an even 300!

Okay, I’m done. Keep grinding out there people!

Congratulation! That’s great! Wish I was up there with you.

You sure you zero’ed you PM correctly before thevtude? Maybe it drifted up too…

Jk, congrats!

Well done. That’s sick.

Curious; What protocol are you using to determine FTP from a 20 minute test?

Congrats! My FTP this morning was 242!

It sounds like the 20 min test (60 min workout) on trainerroad.com.

good job. curious…what is your weight?

I used the test from the Coggan/Allen book.

30 minutes of warm-up with some high RPM spin-ups, 5 minutes max, 10 minutes easy, 20 minute test, pass out.

And that uses .95x20minPwr, which I’ve seen other places.

Super jealous of OP. Sitting at 234 myself, as judged by KKRM extrapolation.

DAMN! Congrats!

Pre-ride weigh in had me at 149.6 lbs.

Congrats! I tested this morning on the CT and ended up with 2@6 ave watts and FTP of 281. 300 FTP is just sick, can’t imagine how much that would hurt

It hurt about the same as anyone’s max effort

I was right around your FTP last year, 283. Hard work and smart training and you will be right there!

Good job! Nearly 4.5w/kg is no joke. I’d be curious to know what your training schedule has been like over the past few months.

Get back to the humilty. Your FTP is not 300 W. Your 20 minute power is 316 W. Go out and do a 60 minute test, plus/minus a few minutes (and not minus 40 minutes!). You got an indication that your FTP could be 300+ W.

read a book, namely this one:

then, let the dude be stoked with this FTP.
there are good reasons to believe that a 60min. test isn’t as good as the 20 anyway.

Impressive. Where did you start out? I’m curious about your progression. I’ve gone from 195 to 253 since buying my PT. leveling off lately.

Don’t be an ass. Nearly everyone estimates FTP by extrapolating results from a shorter test.
