Felt Secondary extension for Bayonet 1

Hello,

first of all I introduce myself: After having spend a lot of time with searching for some informations about stems for Felt’s Bayonet 1 fork, I finally got a hint to this forum. I’m a german road biker, driving in the German Paracycling team and hope to see the US’ team in the beginning of March next year in Italy

On Topic:
I’ve been riding a 2008 Felt B2 Pro with the Bayonet 1 fork and the 45 spline design and the set screw (I think) since the last two years. Now I want to get the bar more downwards, but the stem already hits the front part of the Bayonet System. I searched for alternatives and finally got the hint to this forum from TriSports.com. From here I was redirected to Felt’s Website where I once started my search. Now they offer many stem extensions for the Bayonet systems: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2011/Parts/Road-and-TT-TRI/BAYONET%202%20STEM%20EXTENSION.aspx
what they didn’t (or I didn’t found that) when I started searching.

so, 2 questions:

  1. As I’m not a native English speaker: The part a little bit right of the middle and in the front of the picture (s. link above) is the one I’m interested in resulting in a double adjustable stem when mounted between the top crown and the normal stem). Is this called the “Secondary Extension”?
  2. Can consumer order this at the website mentioned above? When filling out the billing/shipping informations only US States can be chosen. When clicking the “contact” button it said that “We do not sell consumer-direct or via the Internet”. The first Felt dealer I asked here in Germany answered he doesn’t get any parts from the German distributor. The german distributor gave nearly now information. It seems, as, six weeks ago, they even don’t knew something about this part. Any idea how I could buy this part?

Best regards,
Chris

There’s a person on this forum named SuperDave who may be able to find you this information.

Yes, it sounds like you need the secondary extension. This should be possible to order from Germany. Felt cannot ship this part from the USA to you directly.

The Bayonet 1 fork was updated in 2009 to use a 45 spline hinge + a set screw to eliminate any tolerance on the slip fit of the hinge. These top crowns produced in 2008 for 2009 bicycles can accept the 2nd hinge extension, just as our Bayonet2 (and 3) top crowns can. You can buy a complete top crown with 45 splines + the secondary extension from shops in Germany with accounts with Felt/SportImport. Oliie/Manuel are the point-persons to request at Felt.de. I’ll be sure they have your message below but an email address and copy of this request would also be helpful.

Please email me this below informaiton with your contact details.

Danke and best of luck,
-SD

There you go.
That’s the customer service I have met as well from Felt and Superdave - pretty amazing.

Jep! Really amazing! I red some of SuperDave’s posts before posting me questions and I hoped that he’ll see the post. Great luck for me.

@SD: I’ll send you a PM in a few minutes.

Hi,
Sorry to hijack the thread, but it’s closely related. I have about a 2007 Felt DA, and I think it has the bayonette fork. The bike came with three stem extensions, marked 100, 110, and 120. I’m finding that I need to bring the bars back toward me about 20mm, so would like to find an 80mm. The Bayonette II/III extensions seem to be marked completely differently. Also, the felt rep told my shop that the newer extensions aren’t compatible with the old system. Anyone know if this is true? If they are compatible, which one would be equivilant to the old style 80mm? Are there any sources for the older style stem extensions?
Thanks,
James

Felt website. Sizes down to 40, I think.

From what I can tell, the ones on the the felt site are for bayonet 2/3, have 45 splines, and are sized differently than the bayonet 1 stem extensions. The ones that came with my bike are marked 100, 110, and 120, and only has 36 splines, I think. I’m not sure how they came up with those numbers, since the total length of the one marked 120 isn only 105mm. If you go center of hole to center of the bar, like you would think, it’s more like 90mm. The felt rep recommended I call around to felt dealers and ask if they still have any. What a pain.

Hi James,

you might send me a picture of your stem. I guess I’ve got an short old style one somewhere. I’d compare your photo with my stem, take a photo of it and send it to you in case they look the same. Then you can decide, if its the one you need. My mail-address: forum(at)christoph-leiter.de
I’d send te stem for free - but perhaps you’ve got an idea how to deal with the shipping costs from germany to Utah

Regards,
Chris

Try calling R&A cycles, I know they still have 07 DA frame set in stock. Google dimesion adjustable stem, I’ve used those on the 07 DA; also Oval Concepts had some carbon adjustable stems would work as well. PM “sharad” here on ST, he has helpd me with oval related questions in the past.

I called R&A. They don’t have any extra stem extensions available. I found the Dimension adjustible stems. The shortest one for the road is 95mm, which wouldn’t get me much. There is a Dimension 1 (22.2) Quill 26.0, 85mm 70-130 Degree Adjustable Stem here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001C6DU4E/ref=sc_pgp__m_A2TE9IQP68MWQU_5?ie=UTF8&m=A2TE9IQP68MWQU&n=&s=&v=glance
and the stem extension kind of looks like it would work, but probably won’t. I’ll check with my LBS and see what they think.
