Felt or ventum for 5'3" female

hey folks,

i have a friend looking to get into a felt or ventum (yes, those are her 2 choices).

Center of bb to center or saddle 630mm
Tip of saddle to center of armpad 450-460mm (depending on how you measure it)
Front skewer to arm pad 490mm

is some of her info. she’s considering a 48cm felt, or 46cm ventum. her previous bike was a 48cm felt, but she no longer has it (it was damaged beyond repair).

she has been fit by jim at ERO. i believe she checked in with him and was told she would fit on both.

obviously, never do anything without consulting slowtwitch. i messaged dan for advice, but he said to post here so everyone can learn.

bests,

john

Absolutely the Felt (depending on the model) but my opinion is purely based on appearance/looks. The Ventum probably is a great bike but it just doesn’t look like a bike.

I don’t remember giving anyone advice on those two specific bikes recently, but I certainly could be forgetting. The measurements you’re providing won’t allow anyone to tell you much of anything. Just post her pad stack & reach numbers and you’re good to go; they’re on her report.

Out of the box, the Felt is more adjustable. Put a different aero bar on the Ventum and that would change.

I am 5’3" and own two Felts… DA1 tri bike (size 47) and older ZW road bike (size 45). Really like them both. Last year I rode an FR30 while on vacation, in a size 51 with a shorter stem swapped in. Was super happy with it - mind you, I have a long torso, that would factor in to my individual fit.

I’m a huge fan of Felt. Great bang for the buck. Both of mine have been super reliable bikes, and I love riding them. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend one to anybody looking. I’ve no experience with Ventum, so can’t comment on them.

thanks for all the input.

not really looking for personal opinions. her previous bike was a felt, she loved it. an opportunity to ride a ventum came up.

i’m trying to get the fit report.

i’m more curious which bike will give her the absolute best fit.

out of the box, i think it’s the felt.

but with a few changes, i think it’s the ventum. overall it’s a slightly smaller bike, and with her previous felt she was unable to get rear storage solutions, so she ran a frame bottle, the ventum alone will shave a few watts since she’ll be ditching that bottle.

thanks.

As Jim said, Pad X,Y numbers are what is needed. And at 5’3" she might fi best on a bike with 650 wheels, which barely exist anymore. An XS Premiere Tactical might deserve a look.

New felt IA has rear storage solution. And the old ones will have an option in the next week or so.

Sorry for Ventum owners, but I personally think the design is not that good looking.
Felt all the way.

Understood. For what it’s worth, my best-fitting bike in the stable is the DA1 - which has 650 wheels.

been suggesting this for over a year. it’s a no go. not until course mechanics start carrying 650’s. not to mention tube and tire combo also are less than ideal for 650

That’s silly. That bike comes with 650 race wheels, GP4000s come in 650, and you can use literally any sized tube in a pinch (fold a 700).

Go on…

Draft box. For bikes with no bosses like my IA4.

Oh…I was holding out hope “old ones” was not limited to IA’s and also might’ve covered DA and B (including older gen). Wishful thinking but I guess I’m on my own again for this one.

Maybe not. If there is a market may be an opportunity. I asked the guy to check this thread out.

thanks pwraddr,

Yes I am working on a box for the Felt IA and Felt DA. I did a test fit of my 3d printed prototype on a 48 and 54 IA yesterday. Below are pictures of both bikes with the same box.

I expect to start to sell them in the next couple of weeks for $200 a piece. I realize it may seem expensive, but the cost to get them professionally 3d printed is quite high, and these are low volume orders.

I will probably be taking preorders this week.

Do not own ventum but I do own a dimond which is a beam bike. Small Dimond seat slammed all the way down, 165 cranks, low profile saddle. And just fit at 5’6. If she already has a bike measure from center of cranks to the very top of the seat check ventum chart. I also own a Felt IA. I no you are looking at 2 bikes but at that height you really should look at the premier Tactical 650 bike. I own a Tactical too a great bike.

the options are felt, or ventum. period.

PT is a no no until pro courses start carrying 650 wheels. again, i’m working with options i have.

still waiting for stack and reach numbers, smh :frowning:

You may want to remove the link to Catalyst from your signature line. They’ve been gone for a while.

Give jimmy sears a call on the ventum. At 5’3 the reach is going to be a problem and seat height. Now nothing wrong with the Felt carfree rides one and she is short but hers is modified. I am short and I deal with these problems all the time especially with 700 c wheels. In case you are wondering my Felt is a 51. LoL
