Felt IA Accessories

So is Felt actually ever going to come out with any new accessories for the IAs? We’ve spoken heaps about the “possible” and soon to be released products, but nothing has been released. If I remember right, we are looking at an upgraded Calpac posssibly? And a rear draft box? Maybe some sort of integrated front hydration?

Any info at all would be so cool, since you know, we have none.

Reading the other thread regarding the IA I believe the built in hydration can’t be done because a patent that Specialized has. But the deep calpack or the inside triangle box that Mirinida Carfrae has used as prototype parts canät be that hard to get to the market. And sales expectation should be pretty easy to calculate when a lot of IA owners are waiting.
With some many great engineering solutions on this bike I t would be nice to top it of with these finishing touches

I’m actually quite amazed that these products are not out there. Both for the IA line but also B line.
Its the things that makes people buy your bikes. “Oh you have thought of everything so i just buy the bike and add these 2 things that fits perfectly and im off for my Ironman/whatever”.

What i’m lacking is the triangle box, like the one specialized has (which is brilliant), maybe make an Ironman version and a Sprint/oly version.
Why does it not have 2 whole in the top tube like the cervelo bikes has for adding a stealth bag, or even better on the more expensive versions build in box.

I’d be surprised if we ever see these. There’s been a demand for a long time and they were unofficially promised for last spring. Over a year later without any official word on the issue, I think we shouldn’t hold our breaths.

I had intended to make myself both a CalPac replacement and a faired repair kit holder for the back of the seat tube before my main race last year but I got busy and it never happened. I do plan to get to it in the near future…

every few months someone comes out and claims they spoke to some secret person at Felt, and it’s only 3 months away! promise!

hahahahahah! I hope Felt learns a lesson from all this. Don’t wait for other companies to develop products for your bike. Sell it with your own accessories. Hopefully their next tri bike won’t have these issues.

As far as I remember it was SuperDave who initially said there would be a new Calpac released. That would have been early last year, about the time he left Felt, and I’m pretty sure he said it was to be released late spring/early summer (2016). That’s the 1st and last time I heard anything but unsubstantiated rumours. It would be an absurd plan to wait for such a solution.

there is a new Calpak top coming out this summer…more sturdy. Could also be a new insert as well. I heard this directly from the people who crafted it in Felt.

There will be a new IA with more customization (custom tilt) for the bars and bosses for a draft box on the higher-end IA models, and presumably a Felt-styled draft box for the rear bosses.

As per the previous replies, we’ve all heard this before, repeatedly.
It might happen, it might not. Don’t get excited.

As for the section I’ve put in bold… Assume nothing! You do know the IAx frames have been equipped with “draft box” bosses since they were released about 18 months ago? I daresay there are a lot more of them out there than there will be of these new IAs with rear boses. If Felt were going to make draft boxes, it would have made sense to have already done it. These new bikes won’t alter the business case much. That doesn’t mean they won’t make them, but the fact that a new release will have the same bosses doesn’t really change anything.

I’m verrrry excited. You should see.

The new Calpak top does exist. The dude that created it said so to me. Now could Felt decide not to release it? Sure I guess.

The rear bosses would be new on the FRD and IA1 line. The speculation was there would be a Felt draft box then available. There is supposedly a redesigned IA coming ‘soon’…what it looks like and when that will be I don’t know.

Please refer to my previous response… heard all this before.

Of course this time may be different, but people have relayed similar stories before about Felt staff confirming accessories existed and were on their way…but they never materialised.
I’ll remain skeptical until I see an announcement from Felt or products on sale. Felt have given us no reason to get excited about anything less.

I understand the rear bosses would be new on the FRD and IA1 line but they’re not new on the IAx line, I don’t see why their appearance on the IA1 frame necessarily changes anything about Felt’s policy of leaving accessories to others. Can you explain why you think a matching draft box is likely?

When? Tell me when? I want to know now!!! Not tomorrow or next month, NOW!

I hope Felt HASN’T learned anything. All I’ve seen is absolute neglect for consumer demands from both the manufacturer AND the aftermarket. If Felt has taken away anything, it’s they can take their sweet time. Nobody else has moved on it.

July 28. Tentatively

Felt learned we’re all suckers
.

Well it’s also too small a market for companies like XLAB or Torhans to make bike specific gear. It should be up to the manufacturer to make the gear for their bike like Specialized and Trek did.

My guess is that the draft box will happen soon. It is a glaring competitive disadvantage for Felt (Trek, QR, Premier, Diamondback, Orbea, and probably several others offer them) that they need to remedy. And, it is crazy easy to remedy.

I agree with the fellow frustrated IA owners above. Let’s not hold our breath.

Felt said ‘‘It will be out by spring’’

PT Barnum said ‘‘There’s a sucker born every minute’’

Kind of like the same thing right?

At the Felt booth at Oceanside, I was told the same as you. That one of the guys working on bikes actually designed the new Calpac, and that there was also a draft box. Both said to be out this summer.

Of course like others, we have heard before, so I am optimistically hoping, but not holding my breath! The proof will be when deliveries are made. Sure hope this actually happens!
