Felt F85 vs. Scott Speedster S40

I welcome input on which is the better bike - Felt F85 or Scott Speedster S40.

I am looking to purchase a decent road bike in the sub $1200 category. Constructive comments and educted thoughts are appreciated.

I haven’t ridden the Scott, but a few years ago I got back into road racing and picked up the F75. I upgraded to a different bike (still Felt!) fairly quick, but the F75 is still going strong as a trainer bike, with 3 winters on it now.

No complaints at all, the main difference between the F75 and my higher end bike is just the shifting. I’ve ridden quite a bit in rain and stuff, 105 doesn’t feel as crisp as Dura Ace even with new cables and good adjustment.

The carbon fork might help a bit, but regardless, the aluminum frames in that price range do beat you up a little.

First road bike? Don’t forget to budget for clothes and pedals, helmet, etc- find a cool shop that can hopefully work out a deal in your favor. There is room to move, regardless of what anyone tells you.

Thanks- just tired of always riding my tri bike
.

I picked up a 06 Scott S40 on ebay new for dirt cheap think around $700 shipped and in the four years since it has over 5k on it and a chain and bb replacement is all I have done to it. Ride it in the crap winter months holds up great.

Honestly, to me the framesets are a wash.

I’d rather have the 10 speed Microshift/105 on the Felt than the Sora/Tiagra on the Scott S40.

The Scott S30 v. the F85 is more of a toss up in my mind.
