Felt DA Aerocoach cockpit: hey Xavier, those parts finally showed up :-)

Hey Xavier… those parts finally showed up

2 years later my 2008 Felt DA isn’t a super budget build any longer, but it still freaking goes like stink for a lot less money than anything worth owning built in the last couple years. I recently took it apart for 2 weeks to get rid of the old Stages power meter that was failing and finally get the cockpit where I wanted it.

Too narrow, I need to reverse the pole clamp risers to widen the pads…but the idea is there…

I forgot to get the matching computer mount, doh…

I did ride it with the pad width that narrow today at lunch. It wasn’t horrible. Still needs fixed. The armrests made it more than livable. The ergo of the poles is awesome. Current fit makes it a rocketship on my “pauper power” levels. Out/back it was about 27.5mph for 300w on some rough roads, with training wheels, road helmet, and road kit. I’m guessing a whole mph for skinsuit, TT helmet, and race wheels shown in these pictures.

Me likey. Nice upgrades. Amazing how fast you can go without buying the latest super expensive $$$$ exotica.

That looks great! Apologies for the delay, we’re pretty much back on top of things now. I do like the old Felts, they’re plenty fast and we’ve had a few in sessions before. In fact one of the people who worked on the aero for the Pinarello F8 had a session with us some years back, and the TT bike he turned up on was very much a Felt DA eBay special, not as slick as this one though

Thanks again! Great product set the extensions, arm cups, and angle shims.

I widened the pads a hair tonight and fabricated a gps mount that puts it right behind the hands. And I cam see it again, haha.

The new Aerocoach parts make it fun to ride that thing on the rivet. And less scary with those sweet hugging cups.

Do you wax your chain?

Do you wax your chain?

Yessir.

I ride it briefly with factory lube on a new chain, then ultrasonic clean, then wax with MSW. I know there may be more optimal waxes, but I use that one for training miles to keep the Cat 5 tattoo of my calf and grease off my clothes and door handles in the house.

During training, I’ll wipe off the chain after rides then dunk it in the wax without re-doing the full cleaning after some mileage. Then dump that wax and do the whole ultrasonic thing before going back to brand new virgin wax in the pot.

I don’t really ride in nasty weather or conditions to get the chain dirty.

My next trick may be to attempt to put boiling water in the sonic cleaner and turn it to “heat” while the wax heats up in the crock, pour out the water, pour the molten wax in the ultrasonic cleaner, let it run a few minutes with the chain, pour it all back into the crock pot with the chain…then finish up.

I’m going to try that next. With no way other than a “feel good” to verify any gain in doing that. Just a theory the ultrasonic may get the wax in the chain better.

Today, 24mph avg on about 225w with road helmet, road kit, 60/90’s, and not the greatest CRR country roads with a couple little rollers. Technically 23.3, but that included badging in and out of our security gate and getting back to the car. So I clipped that for data purposes.

It was my lunch hour, so I wasn’t going to wreck myself to try to break an hour for a 40k. Soon. Soon. I know I can do it.
