Felt B16 Stock Wheel Weight

At the moment I’m riding a 2010 Felt B16 with all the stock accessories. I have a friend that is going to give me a free pair of Hed Alps and I was wanting to compare the wheel weight between what I have currently and the Alps. I’ve seen different weight reports on the Alps, anywhere from 1640g to 1715g for a set of 700c wheels but can’t find the weight of the wheels that come on the Felt B16. All I’ve been able to find is people saying that they’re “heavy”.

Also, any additional thoughts on the Hed Alps?

Wheel weight is pretty irrelevant on a TT bike unless you do brutally hilly races. Even then, there’s probably more weight on “you” that could be removed more easily than the wheels. Aero is everything in a TT.

Keep in mind that road bike racing requires frequent acclerations and changes in pace. A TT is the exact opposite. So hte responsiveness of a wheel (bing light) isn’t improtant. Weight probably only matter when 1) you have tons of money 2) You a pro and you need that extra 5 seconds in a 2 hour race.

You wheels are probably a full 400grams or more heavier for the set. I don;t think a B16 is a lightweight ot begin with. My Trek SC7.5 sure isn’t.

What I noticed when switching from my 2010 B16 wheel anchors to Zipp 101’s, beyond the weight savings, was the difference in rolling. The hubs make a difference. So although the weight may be the same, I would presume the the HED hubs are much better then the Felt ones. Just my opinion with a n=1.

I figure that the hubs have got to be better than what I’m currently riding as well.

This would have me going from a 33mm deep rim to 50mm. It’s no 808 but you can’t beat the cost of free.

I recall the TTR4 wheels coming in about 2180g depending on the model year.

I weighed my stock TTR3’s with tires and cassette from my 2012 B12 and they came up to 1250g for the front (including the tire/tube) and 1800g for the rear (tire/tube and a CS4600 11-25 cassette). Tires are the Victoria Zaffrino Pro Slick 700c x 23 and these wheels are 38mm sidewalls.

Compared to my HED Jet 5 express (2013 with the 10 speed max freehub) which came in about 400 grams lighter with the same cassette but different tires (which are maybe 15 grams lighter per tire - Pro4 Endurance 700c x 23).

depends on which wheels they are. I assume SD knows that they are ttr4’s. I weighed my ttr 3’s at one point, I think it was about 2200g. However, you won’t notice any differences due to weight or the hubs. If you think you do, it’s a placebo affect, or the fact that the new wheels are more aerodynamic.
