Need some insight into if i messed up my newest purchase.
Untill now i have used the stock FELT TTR4 wheels which are 22mm in width.
I bought a pair of carbonwheels which are 25 mm in width. Of course i had to adjust the brakes to make space so i took it to the LBS.
He has now called me today to tell me he has made a scratch in the wheels while testing them, due to the fact that when putting in power to the pedal the wheel has scratched the frame!!! A scratch is one thing, but if i in my upcomming race experience the wheel hitting the frame, that is quite a problem and not something i want to waste time thinking about.
So is it me that has fucked up, should i never have installed 25mm width wheels on a felt B14? Or are the wheels/frame soft/not up to the quality they should be. So i guess i’m seeking feedback from people who have installed 25mm width wheels on a felt b14, and if that has been an issue.
Don’t know what year you are talkin bout I run 2015 zipps in my 2011 B10 without any probs. Had to adjust the horizontal to get the 25 tire fit but that’s something your lbs should know and worst case the tire rubs close to the BB inside.
Other than that I can’t get it why and where the wheel scratches something and not the tire first?
I can read that other people have fitted their 25mm flo wheels, so I am a bit puzzled, or maybe it it just the LBS who fucked it up and came with an excuse, but i doubt it as it is the most trustworthy LBS in the country who are always fair.
He did weight the LBS 105kg but the wheels are made for up to 110kg, i myself weigh in at 84kg, could this have cause it.
And yes now that you say it.
If the tire is wider (not much 23mm tire), than the wheel, it should hit first. GUess i have to go and investigate!
Also wrote the Wheel company (who are also felt distributer) and they have sold 10+ b14+my wheels combos this year and say that they have not heard of this issue.
Not to diss your lbs but something stinks at least a little. Go there and check, maybe take pics and post em if unsure.
Even the 23 tire…most brands building actually wider than that depending on the rim there are on.
You will see.
To be completely picky…is the 110 rider weight or system weight?
If system do the math (105+7,…) but still…shouldn’t be a prob other that he pushes like a berserk at this weight.
I run HED jet+ wheels on my b12 (assuming similar/same rear end geometry). I’ve had no frame clearance issues. Rims are 25mm wide with 23mm tyres that measure just over the 25 when mounted. The rear brake is maxed out and close rubbing (I need to shave the pads to be honest), but it’s still clear.

I would too assume same geometry from b12/b14. and i run a similar setup as you do. So it does stink a bit. Guess i will have to go and figure out.
Yeah, that I forgot…I too took the shims of the brake pad holder out to get enough clearance.
But this even a newbie sees before getting into the pedals.
