"felon"

To start, I don’t support trump, hope Republicans find a replacement. But is trumps conviction worthy of “felon” label? Same stigma as a rapist or murderer. Better yet, someone with charge of soft drug possession is charged with this (example marijuana, MOST states can get this dropped, not all)

There’s a wide variety of felony offenses. Being a felon doesn’t necessarily imply the same stigma as some of the violent felonies.

Absolutely. Don’t hate the game, hate the player.

And don’t forget: the Melon Felon is also an “adjudicated rapist”, which means he’s a rapist.

noun

a person who has been convicted of a felony.

Stigma? Your concerned about stigma? He was convicted of a felony. He’s a felon.

Words have meaning and felon is the correct word to use to describe him.

It is why everyone said this is the least impactful case if he was found guilty. Leading an insurrection or even stealing classified documents are clear and easy to understand. Campaign finance laws are cumbersome and not easily understood by most people. It almost seems like getting a felony charge for making a mistake on your taxes.

Of course tax fraud is how they brought down Al Capone.

Donald Trump and Jeffery Dahmer were both:

Law breakers
Criminals
Charged with Crimes
Guilty
and Felons

One of them, however, was a murderer and the other wasn’t.

Just because Trump didn’t kill anyone doesn’t mean that the other five labels shouldn’t apply to him.

DC turned around and elected a felon to office as soon as he was released from jail.

Yeah, that was dumb and bad.

When the penalty range is simple probation vs death penalty… there needs to be better classification. In this case, misdemeanor would be better…now if guilty of the Jan 6 stuff, felon would apply since some people died

Or - hear me out - Trump could just not commit felonies.

A felony is basically just any offense for which the penalty starts with 1 year imprisonment or longer (not counting options for probation).

We don’t need a different term just because someone who commits one of those crimes doesn’t like the designation that goes along with it.

Martha Stewart was found guilty of felony charges and will forever be known as a convicted felon.

Trump’s charges are of a similar white collar nature as hers.

Didn’t they both host The Apprentice?

Look at it this way;

Life long felon, finally caught.

Whooo boy. Buckle up Sonny you’re going to want to hear about the raping.

I remember an almost identical discussion on the forum after Trump was impeached for the second time. Someone on the forum, and I don’t remember who, didn’t like that people were saying Trump was impeached. They thought that because he was acquitted by the Senate then he wasn’t actually impeached. When the process was explained and that Trump was in fact impeached regardless of the outcome, they said they didn’t agree. I guess we should make our own definition of words now, kind of like “alternative facts”.

You run into the same problem. Driving on a suspended license is a misdemeanor. What he did was far worse than that.

While what he did may not have been as bad as murder, it’s still pretty fucking bad. I mean, how low do we need to lower the bar for Trump?

for trump - maybe so. But I am thinking of others, such as martha stewart which was mentioned here…
