Feet went numb during run. Tight calves the issue?

Monday and then again today on my run, both my feet went numb forcing me to cut it short (~5 miles). I did 14 miles last Friday and my legs felt great throughout and after the run…so I’m not sure what’s up. Would tight calves cause this?

loosen thy shoe laces?

Your shoes might be to tight. Tight calfs can cause your gate and arch to be affected but not numb (at least I think).

Hmm. I have yankz on, so they haven’t been adjusted since I put them on my shoes. Not sure if they somehow tightened on their own.

It is not necessarily them tightening, it could be your foot swelling as it will when running.

When I first used Yankz, I had them tighter than I would have regular laces and had pain on the top of my foot.

Used to happen a lot to me and everyone always said my shoes laces were to tight, after dealing with it on and off for a few years I was diagnosed and tested for compartment syndrome.

Took a lot of massage, PT, gait analysis, time off for it to go away, from time to time I get the feet numb sensation or the super tight calf sensation and immediately start with massage.

Haha, good point.

Hopefully this isn’t the case, but thanks for pointing it out. I’ve only had foot numbness once before this week, and it was last year.

I never heard of that. Thanks for the info.

yeah, I had the same problem with the yankz laces. They will shift during a run, and tighte across the arch, and loosen around the ankle. It takes just a second to reset them before each run when putting them on. Also, I’ve had to loosen mine fairly well to account for swelling in my big paws during a long run. Love the laces though.

I hope it’s this simple and not something more pressing.

Sometimes the laces create a pressure point at just the wrong spot. If you can locate the spot, you can alter the lacing pattern such as by skipping a pair of eyelets.

It started in my calfs and then went to my legs , then to my waist. I had back surgery. The problem could be in your back.

Good god, that is teribly depressing.

Wait, why do you want to feel your feet on a long run? I love it when my legs and feet go numb, I run a lot better being pain free.

I’m sorry, that sucks. Hopefully it’s just the yankz/shoes.

I probably should have been more specific on the numbness. It’s more of that tingly numbness that doesn’t feel good. It went away immediately as soon as I stopped running. When I was walking after having stopped the numbness didn’t show back up either. Perfect timing…considering I have a race the first weekend of April.

Oh, yeah, get rid of yanks and switch to lock laces. Same idea, different thickness in bungee.

I had similiar problems with yanks, never with lock laces.

Interesting discussion. I thought maybe I had compartment syndrone, but my issue is my left foot only is somewhat numb. It does not get worse with use, it’s just persisntently like that. I have loosened my shoes, but that doesn’t change the sensation. I’ve noticed that my toes are curled up somewhat (don’t touch the ground), when the foot is relaxed.

It’s weird. Haven’t found any good info on a cause, and my doctor was just perplexed. Have had it for a few years, and it really hasn’t slowed me down (oddly enough), but it’s damm odd.

Any ideas?

I might also add that my running shoes are a 10.5 shoe, I wear a street shoe size 9.5 in all other stuff. You might try looking at that at as well.

law of parsimony…simplest explanation was of course the yankz…I readjusted them and went for a nice 13 miler today. thanks for the suggestion! I just wish it didn’t cost me 2 runs.
