Performance has Powertap G3 laced to a HED Jet 5 Clincher for 1499 for the wheelset. I currently have a Powertap/DT Swiss wheelset that I am going to sell. This is for my training road bike, my race set up is Quarq ELSA. I was on the fence b/w the HED wheelset and a Pioneer pod retrofitted to an existing DA 9000 crankset and purchasing a set of Dura Ace C24s. Price is roughly the same but HED seems like a better deal. What says you? Thanks.
If these are race wheels or race-and-training wheels then the HED Jets win. No contest.
If you have another set of race wheels then the Shimano/Pioneer setup wins because you can swap out the wheels without loss of power data. (or having to have two Powertap wheelsets).
I purchased this deal a couple months ago as my first endeavor into aero wheels. PB threw an additional sale on so they were $1200 for me, at that point I couldn’t say no to HED wheels + a Powertap.
I’m assuming you know this, but they’re carbon/alloy so the carbon fairing is in no way structural. In fact, I was a little taken aback at how flimsy the fairings felt. That being said, I took them to my local tri shop to get them set up and they said some of the fairings run thin and since its HED they didn’t raise any flags.
They especially liked how fat the rims are, but I’m riding a BMC TM02 so I had to sand the rear brake pads down since they’re integrated into the frame.
All in all, the included Powertap made me forgive the skimpiness of the fairings, and it still looks fast, so that’s all that matters, right?

Thanks. I get this, as mentioned my race set up is crank based as I have multiple race wheels.

Thanks for your input. I consider the HED design as a pro and not a con for training purposes. A ZIPP design with the nipple on flange is inferior in my opinion. It may be marginally lighter but is not nearly as durable. Not trying to start a ZIPP vs. HED fight, I have owned and raced many pairs of both. They are both great but I personally prefer HEDs for durability.
