Looking for my first smart Trainer. Anyone using this?
Anyone?
It’s a very good trainer and tested well. smaller flywheel than the snap. I do like the roller knob idea. Makes putting the same roller tension from ride to ride much easier. It maxes out at the same 1500 watts as the snap but gives up to 15% incline compare to the snap’s 12%.
The snap feel sturdier and the heavier flywheel is nice. You might be able to get the Magnus at a better price though.
Is there a Big difference between the two?
All come down to what is important to you.
Accuracy is close. The snap 2 tested better and closer to my PM if calibrated properly. Snap is quieter. The Magnus have a plastic feel to it and lighter where he snap feels heavier and solid. Do you care about the extra 2% in slope? Zwift goes up to 17% if you plan on using Zwift so the Magnus might offer more resistance.
If paying less is what you are looking for, you might get the Magnus cheaper if you keep your eyes open for deals. Nashbar discounted them by up to 35%.

I hated mine. The power was off too much from my PM even after several spindown calibrations. But the worst part was that after several rides, the trainer went dead. It wouldn’t turn on. I sent it back to Saris and they sent me a new one. After a few rides, it happened again. So I decided I am fine with with a PM and dumb trainer since I don’t need the extra complexity and frustration that comes with it.
It works. It can provide a solid workout. The biggest letdown is the small flywheel size.

I have one. Had a lot of problems with it. Nicely constructed hardware, but even after 3 firmware updates I still don’t like how it rides.
It’s ok for erg mode workouts but the quoted 1500W and 15% slope are a joke. Feedback is completely off. Impossible to pedal at anything over 5% gradient. Can’t handle any hard efforts in a low gear. Barely able to push over 200W. It calibrates successfully about 1 in every 7 goes. Accuracy is ok when it does calibrate, within 3% or so of my ptap.
There is zero useful documentation. Most of what I learned is from comments section of dcr and other reviews - plus a couple of calls to cycleops.
This review chimes with my experiences.

If you want to ride Zwift or Rouvy I find that I need to put the difficulty setting at about 25% to make it rideable. That seems a little much.
I’ve had very good experiences with other cycleops gear - serveral powertaps and a fluid 2, but I regret not returning this.
