Favorite Whole Grain Staple Foods

Hey fellow carb addicts… I am trying to get more ideas for myself and was wondering what your favorite whole grain foods are?

This is probably my current staple because it tastes great and is easy.

During those dark, dark days, when I am hopelessly trying to kick my bagel addiction, I’ll turn to this. My poor, defenseless colon is no match for it’s strength…ultimately relenting with a long series of peristaltic gurgles and a cloud of noxious gas.

It’s basically sweetened styrofoam - yummy!

tabolleah, I just realized I don’t know how to spell this…Looking it up, tabbouleh, I was close.

Hogdson’s Mill Whole Wheat Pasta with Milled Flax seed. I love the stuff, it’s great pasta and the flax seed is really good for you. I’ve been trying to eat fewer refined carbs, so I’m not eating this every night anymore, but I may start again now that my training is going up.

I’ve been eating a lot of pasta for a very long time, and this is my favourite.

Whole grain beer on my wheat woven chair.

Good old-fashioned rolled oats, supplemented with cut up fruit, skim milk, cinnamon and multigrain cereal (like Red River).

Mix it and cook the hell out of it in the nuker.

Mmmmm.

I’m not even sure I know what “whole grain” means. Does rice count?

no whole grains are things like unbleached ground flour, oats that have only been cut, bran, barley, rye, wheat bulgur…things with lower glycemic index than things like white bread for which the index is based off of. Brown rice would be better than white, but for triathletes it doesnt matter, just eating unprocessed carbs is important.

My recent whole grain addition is the Aunt Millie’s Hearth bread, more calories than Wonder bread but much better you you.

Since you sound more informed than me: What about sprouted grains, like ezekial bread?

I like Kashi GoLean a lot, and love Mueslix, but can’t find it in too many places. I eat whole grain wheat bread. You have to be careful with this, since a lot of stuff that says ‘whole wheat’ is just enriched wheat flour.

I also like Stonyfield Farms yogurt. It’s got inulin and other goodies in it, so it is a good source of dairy fiber, and the inulin is a nutrient for the biotics in your belly. Healthy gut = good.

Yummy carbs, mmmmmMMMMMMmmmmm

I think Colon Blow (old SNL skit) did a rebranding as Kashi Go-Lean Crunch. Tasty, but good grief. I’m not sure if they’re competing against oatmeal/packaged cereals or ExLax.

technically its a seed i think, but quinoa is the best. easy as rice too cook.

I’m not 100% sure on this but i would think as long as theyre not processed theyre good. i mean people sprout rye which i mention before i think, or at least i meant to and quinoa. But mainly when were looking at whole grains were just aming away from wonderbread.

Interesting coincidence, I’m having one now. Never had it before, closest thing to an IPA I’ve had in a while. Local brewery used to make a killer IPA, they have a new brewer his beer sucks. This may be it’s replacement.

Trader Joe’s “Essentials” cereal with 2 tbsp. whole or ground flaxseed and skim or soy milk.

Kashi TLCs (Tasty Little Crackers), ranch or regular. Great ingredients and good taste.
