Time for a new lid. Looking for something low-profile (as little mushroom-head as possible). But, don’t want to break the bank.
Was looking at the Giro Stylus. But, some reviews compain about the retention system. Also considering the Bell Array, and, possibly, the Louis Garneau Exo-Nerv.
Anyway… Looking for suggestions or reviews of those I’m considering.
Go online to performancebike.com. Usually about now there are last year high end helmets for under $100. You may have to compromise color and some sizes are more difficult to come by but you’ll definitely get a deal. I currently am alternating between a Bell Sweep and Gyro Pneumo both bought there for under $100.
The Array is heavy. 325g doesn’t sound like a ton, but you definitely notice it. I prefer my Bell Furio a lot more. $20 cheaper, lighter and a better fit system, at least for me. Not quite as well vented, though.
i really like the bell sweep - you can find them online for less than $100. you can also occasionally find the bell ghisallo as well, which is also very nice.
Bell helmets are, indeed, nice. I’ve been sporting the Rudy Project Slinger for the past year and love it: Light & comfy with a price that won’t break the bank.
I may catch heat for this one, but I really like the new Trek circuit, pretty light and feels very secure. One reason I bought it over the Lumen was because the Lumen looked to “mushroom” on me, but maybe that’s just my melon.
True, but you can easily find them for $40-50. And as far as features an Dcomfort go, the lumen is hardly a replacement. Nor, in my opinion would be the array. Better to just get a 2009 model sweep.
Just curious what you don’t like about the Lumen? It is slightly heavier, 50g maybe, but I feel like the padding is much improved, and it has the same retention system as the Furio.
I liked the Furio as well, but I honestly like the Lumen better. I am not a huge fan of the array, and I love the Sweep, next to the Volt, it is the best helmet I have ever owned.

Thanks.
x2 or x3 or whatever on the Bell Sweep. Great helmet, great price. I much prefer the Bell tightening system to Giro—much easier to work with on the fly.
Maybe it’s the change in shape that I didn’t like about the Lumen, making it closer in design to the Array. The Furio hugs my head perfectly, which makes the retention system super comfortable and the pads ideal. I don’t know it’s on my head. Not the case with the Lumen, which feels a bit hard and the GPS doesn’t sit quite as nicely. The Furio just works for me wonderfully. And don’t underestimate that 50g on your noggin. It won’t make a difference in speed, but you can feel the added heft in your neck.
I have a $90 red LG Exo Nerv. I like the wheel adjustment…easy to losen/tighten with 2 fingers on the fly.
Doesn’t feel like I have a mushroom on my head & it is comfortable. Looks real nice with my white Tofosi Dolomite sunglasses!
